Reports say something crashed after 1 minute. Looks like a failure. |

Can't say I'm really surprised by this. North Korea's rocket program seems to be about as developed as it's welfare system. |

I predict some more firing as well. Of the squad variety. |

LOL! I mean, most people figured it would crash like the last one... I am curious about this supposed uranium testing they say will be happening in the near future, though... Hopefully it's just more of the same... |

It ain't as easy as it looks. There is a reason they call it rocket science.
A little perspective...
Vanguard launched 3 satellites out of 11 launch attempts:
Vanguard TV3 - December 6, 1957 - Failed to orbit 1.36 kg (3 lb) satellite
Vanguard TV3 Backup - February 5, 1958 - Failed to orbit 1.36 kg (3 lb) satellite
Vanguard 1 - March 17, 1958 - Orbited 1.47 kg (3.25 lb) satellite
Vanguard TV5 - April 28, 1958 - Failed to orbit 10.0 kg (22 lb) satellite
Vanguard SLV 1 - May 27, 1958 - Failed to orbit 10.0 kg (22 lb) satellite
Vanguard SLV 2 - June 26, 1958 - Failed to orbit 10.0 kg (22 lb) satellite
Vanguard SLV 3 - September 26, 1958 - Failed to orbit 10.0 kg (22 lb) satellite
Vanguard 2 - February 17, 1959 - Orbited 9.8 kg (21.6 lb) satellite
Vanguard SLV 5 - April 13, 1959 - Failed to orbit 10.3 kg (22.7 lb) satellite
Vanguard SLV 6 - June 22, 1959 - Failed to orbit 10.3 kg (22.7 lb) satellite
Vanguard 3 - September 18, 1959 - Orbited 22.7 kg (50 lb) satellite

My favorite description of the "rocket" was it was a washing machine wrapped in tinfoil.
Some of the commentary at CNN was almost worth a chuckle as they said the S. Koreans were "still trying to determine the capabilities of the North Koreans".....as if that still needed clarifying.
I assume someone's life span got shortened in Pyongyang today as well.
On a semi-serious note - I'm wondering if they'll feel the need to make-up for this failure with some sort of face saving "action"? |

That North Korean missile is a message for the ruling party in South Korea.
Quote: |
Dear, South Korea
Congratulations! You have Park Guen Hye as your next dear leader. Remember when Park Guen Hye visited Pyeongyang in 2002 and our Dear Leader once said "We are children of great leaders" to her? Those were the days. We are brothers after all. Your conservatives rely on our military might. The confrontation between South Korean conservatives and the North Korean military is one of the greatest international co-operations in the world.
Love, North Korea |

Yeah, it's tough to launch satellites...if you're living in the 1950s.

A search of the NSSDC Master Catalog at the end of October 2010 listed 6,578 satellites launched into orbit since 1957, the latest being Chang'e 2, on 1 October 2010 |
