Hi there,
I just finished at my hagwon at the end of February (2012) and I am back home in Canada right now.

I am starting to apply to go back to Korea, but this time I want to do public school. Anyway, I just contacted a recruiter and he told me that if I want to go back to Korea within 3 months (of leaving) that I don't need to get another Criminal background check or notarized degree done again. Is this true?

I worked in Korea for 1.5 years and when I wanted to extend my working time for 6 months they told me I needed to get all those documents again - while I was in Korea! I find it hard to believe with Korea's standards that they would just allow me to return to Korea (for a new contract, new school, new location) without providing new versions of these documents.
Can anyone fill me in? What's the scoop/real deal here?

According to new policy, if you come back to korea within 3 months, you dont need to submit all the new paperwork. I think you only need the medical exam. It's on the immi site.

Could you please lead me to the part of the immi site that states that. I have tried to use the immigration site, and perhaps I am not using the right one, but I can't seem to find much information for a case like this.

I am also going home for 6 weeks between jobs, but ending a contract and starting with someone else. Some people had mentioned a D10, but my flight leaves the day after my contract ends and I believe I won't have my ARC back in time (something I believe to be a problem). If I could go home and return without having to get new docs, would seem as if there is no need to do this D10. Seems too good to be true.

Correct me if I'm wrong.....if you have a D-10, it's a looking-for-work Visa. Therefore, if you have one, you shouldn't have to return your ARC.

That brings me to the next question. If you have a D-10, can you leave Korea temporarily then re-enter? If so, NO new sets of documents? I'm Canadian BTW.

Can anyone please confirm because I will be in the same boat soon?

Thanks a lot.

The answer I got a couple weeks back was that if you get the D-10 you wouldn't need a new set of documents. However, I think you can only apply for a D-10 7 days prior to the end of your contract. I am leaving the day after and I don't think they process your request that fast. I have a hard time imagining I could leave/re-enter the country without the ARC but I suppose it is possible.

As for leaving the country, I believe you are allowed but there is probably someone more informed than I to confirm. I also would like to get it and then leave for vacation.

How do you show proof that were you only gone for 3 months? Do you show your passport stamps which show exit and re-entry?

Will the immigration office check their file and see when you left?

confused?

Found this on the HiKorea website:

Quote:
If a foreigner hands in a criminal record check which covers the whole home country's information for the visa issuance application, and comes to Korea after getting the conversation teacher(E-2) visa the criminal record check document is able to be omitted when the foreigner wants to move to another workplace through a new visa issuance application.(This includes the situation such as, visa issuance application made after the foreigner left Korea. But, if the time period from leaving date up to entrance date with the new E-2 visa is more than 3 months criminal record check is needed when alien registration application is made. )

That seems to mean you would be applying from your home country and getting a visa issuance #, going to the embassy etc.

However, with regards to the degree it stated
Quote:
Degree certificates
- Got Apostille or verified from the Korean embassy in foreigner's home country confirmation certificate from the university or graduation certificate including degree achievement facts or diploma or degree copy
- If a foreigner hands in a degree certificate for the visa issuance application, and comes to Korea after getting the conversation teacher(E-2) visa, if the document is made as data in the immigration system the degree certificate is able to be omitted when the foreigner wants to move to another workplace through a new visa issuance application.
Issuance of proof of (lack of) criminal records

No mention of going back home for 3 months in this case so perhaps you need them again??

Does anyone know/think this would work if the person was to come back to Korea, accept a job and do a Visa Run to Japan??
