It's ludicrous how long it takes to get an ARC from immi.

Three weeks and counting since I did all my junk at immi.

I just wish every man and his dog would stop asking me for my cell no., including immigration.

I have a friend who just came back after taking a few months off and he's been waiting for five weeks for his ARC. No problems with his documents, just a long wait. They told his public school something about how the cards are being processed by a different agency.

i changed from an e-2 to a d-10 and they told me to pick it back up in 3 weeks (tomorrow).

found a new job and went to immigration before the ARC pick up date and it was already waiting for me. no idea why one needs to wait for 3 weeks...

strangely the woman asked me if i had any trouble with the korean police (no) and then said she would have to check my background in korea. no idea why, it's never happened before but she then said the visa would be processed.

I think renewal can be done on the spot (at least that was the case for my F-4) but to get a replacement card can take weeks.

And yes, I wonder if my card would've been ready if I went before the pickup date. I have waited the required three weeks just to get a new card for my worn out one.

Mine is for a new application.

I wouldn't mind, but all in all I've paid an absolute fortune to get this bloody visa because of the laughable requirements.

I was told to pick up my replacement ARC card (in my case, for gyopos) April 16. The issue date on the new card read March 29. I was like !@#$@!!! Why the hell didn't they let me know that it was issued like two weeks earlier and such.

Why didn't you just pay the 4,000 won to have it delivered?

They never told me about it and I had time to pick it up. Oh well, live and learn.

Next time, just go upstairs, pay the 4,000 to get a delivery slip and give it to the guy. Maybe that's why I got mine after 7 days. Its on the next floor up, back to the left, you'll see the sign above the desk.

@Fez - Can you scoop me on this D-10? I know you have to have a form, 60,000 won and then you show up, but is it actually that simple? My friend's hagwon is closing and I told her about this, but I only have the odds and ends ESL cafe info and that random Canadian Consulate site. Thanks!

Korea Minting & Security Printing Corporation which is equivalent to, say, the U.S. Mint, produces your ARC, not K-Immi.
This 'Korea Mint' already has a lot to handle, including all Korean passports and national IDs on top of currencies and others.

hey mikesaidyes

i went to immigration with my passport and arc card 2 days before it expired. (plus a passport photo)

filled out 2 forms - the usual visa one where i ticked 'change of status of sojourn' and filled in the details.

when i got to the desk, the woman gave me another form that i hadn't previously seen at the desk. a yellowy paper that asked me to tell them how i will look for a job, what type of work and what to expect pay wise. officer told me to write 'use internet', will look for up to 3 months etc, expect 2.5m.....

i have a british passport so only had to pay 10,000 in cash for a new ARC. i believe everyone else needs the 10,000 in cash and then 50,000 in stamps from the 3rd floor.

gave her the papers, she said come back in 3 weeks and pick up your new card.

friday before i was to get the d-10 ARC i'd found a new job and simply transferred it straight to my new school.
