I have applied to both for Fall 2012. I completed both applications in full (my documents should arrive at the EPIK office sometime Monday). I've been told that I will get a decision by early May for TaLK and likely mid-June for EPIK. Would turning down TaLK hurt my chances for getting accepted to EPIK?

Also, when did you hear back from TaLK/EPIK when you applied?

Thanks everyone!

People have already been offered conditional admission (once EPIK receives all their documents; they already applied and had an interview) and admission to EPIK.

Go to: http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/FallEPIK2012/ for EPIK for fall 2012.

I can't say for TaLK though.

Good luck!

I'm confused. Where does the Facebook page indicate that people have gotten conditional offers already? My understanding is that once the EPIK offices receive all of your documents they recommend you to the offices of education. Is that what you mean by conditional offer?

I had my interview with EPIK last night. He said that I would hear sometime this week if I "passed the interview" and would then need to send in my documents, so I'm assuming this is what RK12 meant.

I don't want to hijack this thread but I have a related question.

I can only work for 6 months in Korea and the TALK option can give me this.

But the EPIK is a better job with better pay in a non rural area.

Would it be advisable to work 6 months in the EPIK and hand in my notice.

How would this affect my salary etc? I'm thinking I would only lose my flight home?

Thanks for any help.

You can legally quit after 6 months with TALK and get a free flight? With EPIK, if you quit after 6 months, you will have to pay your own flight home and be on a hiring blacklist for EPIK hiring. Other public schools may still be open to you in the future. If you have a 4 year degree, you can work for EPIK.

"Conditional admission" means they have passed the interview. The only time you actually secure a position is when they have all your documents.

For example, let's say Bob was granted "conditional admission" in late April and Jane was granted "conditional admission" in early May. If Jane gets her documents in before Bob, she has secured a position earlier than Bob. It all boils down who gets their documents in first.

I can say from personal experience. I had actually applied to EPIK three years ago. My friend and I applied together and even got an interview on the same day. We were notified on the same day that we passed and that all we had to do was get our documents in as fast as possible. However, due to some confusion with my passport renewal, I submitted my documents one week later than friend. The result? He secured a position in Incheon while I was dropped from all three choices. Fortunately, during that time, SMOE requested EPIK to hire 100 extra teachers and my recruiter quickly transferred my documents to them securing me a position in Seoul.

Just because you've passed or been admitted means nothing. The important part is what happens after they've received all your documents.

My documents were processed at the EPIK offices on Monday. I was told that I am one of the first applicants to successfully submit all documents.

EPIK and TaLK are my only two options for after graduation (I graduate in May). If I get accepted to TaLK, would it be wise to turn it down? TaLK only gives me 7 days to respond to an offer. TaLK is supposed to be my backup, but I will have to make a decision likely before I ever know if EPIK offers me a position.

My question is, for anyone this applies to, when did you get an offer from EPIK? Even though I'm one of the first applicants in line to be placed (if I do get placed, documents processed in Seoul on April 16th), but I don't think I can expect an offer until mid-June.

Thanks for your responses!

The Talk program I would be applying for had an option of 6 or 12 months.

If I recall, the TALK program is also offered to those with 2-year degrees or in the process of graduating. In regards to benefits, EPIK is better and I believe the pay is better. I'd definitely choose EPIK over TALK.

Does TALK have it's own payscale or is it simply 1.5
million? If I wanted a break and could work less (as long as there isn't desk warming required and go home when done), it might be an ok deal.

Why does EPIK need to know you were applying to (or had applied to) TaLK?

As for your second question, I'd applied for EPIK for the spring, so not sure what the fall timeline is like. (A little surprised there isn't a thread for the fall intake like there was for the spring.)

But I can say it does vary as to when you get your NOA...if you get it. Most people who'd applied for spring 2012 got their NOA long before I did.
