There may be some truth to that, although I highly doubt that rocket launch there is as expensive as it is in pretty much any other country of the world.
It's kind of like film/medical industry - when the actor/doctor gets paid in the millions, thus bringing the cost of film/surgery into millions, does that mean that surgeries/films cost millions in NK? I call bull on that.
Aside from that, there's also a bit of hypocrisy. The poverty rate in USA stands at 15% (U.S. Census Bureau). How many of those people could have been fed/sheltered on the billions upon billions spent on military (or even NASA program)?
Here is a blog in regards to poverty in US/NK.

Well, that's it for playing devil's advocate today. |

| Yeah the president said something like that. You can say that about everything though. |

How many of those people are starving to death? How many of those people are so malnourished that they never develop fully physically? Apples and oranges... |

| Why do I feel that this post is less about the DPRK, and more about the opportunity to stick it to the US? |

I'm seeing a trend here. It seems like every thread here about the North eventually end up being a anti-US flame war. I wish these lefties would just be honest and say they're starting a thread to diss America / Korean conservatives. |

Wasn't the rocket itself recycles from an ex-Cold War Russian one?
Most of the labor in the work force surrounding the launch was regular state labor.
Sure the monitoring equipment and upkeep of it would have been expensive. Then there's the fuel. |

There's lots of propaganda in NK and lots of it in USA/SK. I'm simply trying to balance it out with a few facts. Propaganda in NK is usually expected, but it's always disheartening to see it being commonplace in SK/USA (though with SK media being what it is and fox news in the states - holding SK/western politicians/media in higher esteem is probably not that wise). The estimates in regards to rocket launch cost were made by SK/USA officials - hence the hypocrisy comment. |

I'm an American. The US deserves criticism on the issues of what the government spends our money on. |

I think their rocket monitoring station consists of 3 desktop computers^^ not exactly state of the art tech. |

That's fine... but is this the section of the forum for it? How exactly is that related to living in Korea? |

Also, look at their military. Quite a sizeable armory there.
I'm sure they sell enough weapons-grade plutonium to make ends meet. |

| I'm pretty sensitive about criticism towards the US, however if the people there are starving then lets get them some food and put the politics aside. |
