PEOPLE'S PARK is nice and the beautiful pond in the middle of it has a great bar called the Barbarosa Lounge, sit on the porch enjoy a drink at night you are in the center of Shanghai and yet sitting in a Chinese garden.

I agree with the poster who touted the French concession, some lovely mansions left over from the colonial period.

People's Park is nice. Be careful of all of the pickpockets and be ready for many people coming up to you to speak/practice Englishee.

Barbarosa is a cool/hip spot to have a couple of drinks. It's pricey, but as mentioned worth checking out.

And, of course, the Former French Concession is a must in many ways.

Yeah the people come up to you to get you to go to a juicy bar so they can have you part with your money. They seemed to focus on middle aged men.
