So it's time to finally decorate my apartment, and I need some supplies. I've been trying to find a hardware store (think Home Depot) with no luck - my co-teachers aren't even sure if such a thing exists in Korea. I also need a craft store or a fabric store, somewhere I can buy things like yarn and so forth. Does anyone know what the name of these kinds of stores would be, or of specific ones in Bundang? I've tried Emart/Lottemart/HomePlus and they just don't cut it.

I don't really think there is a 'home depot' esque store here. You're more likely to find little mom and pop hardware stores, which are on every corner.

For crafting supplies, have a look at this site: http://seoulsnb.blogspot.com/2005/03/buying-craft-materials-in-seoul.html

They've got some good leads on crafting supplies in Seoul.

Also, if you like to knit and are on ravelry, there is a 'knitters in korea' group that has information about stitch n bitch meetups in Bundang.

Large hardware stores don't exist here. They are all just small little stores. Look for the stores with big brooms sitting outside. The problem is that different ones sell different stuff. More specific about what kind of hardware you're looking for?

Go to Guro Station. From there, look at the map in the subway station and you will see 'Industrial Tool Complex'. You can find every kind of tool possible there. (as well as some sweet sheet metal!) It's a conglomerate of a whole bunch of little hardware stores together in almost a market situation. The prices are right as a result of the big group of them, and the selection can't be beat. While it takes more looking around than your big box hardware store, it's way better selection in the end.

Have fun!

if you walk from the rotary to the rinai building and keep going away from hongdae then make a left right after the sauna there is a little chines restaurant and a hardware store.

I saw a yarn and crafts place if you leave ehwa station and head down towards daehung station. just about to the sogang back gate before the car garage they sell yarn.
