My opinion on the matter is to work near a big city your first year. Learn about Korea and get to know it, and then move into a bigger city. Living outside a city will give you better income generally. I lived in Naju for the first year I was here. It was only a 40 minute bus ride from Gwangju. Now I'm living in Gwangju and things are even better than before. Food tastes way better here anyway than Seoul ^_~

your degree is totally irrelevant to teaching. What a mockery this "profession" has become.

ESL has always been notorious. I'm not sure how an English teacher with a BA degree is something new to you. Korea has stated which qualifications it wants and that's what they are getting.

Seriously who cares, a monkey could do this job and a monkey with a BA degree could do it quite well.

I've got a CELTA and openly admit it wasn't necessary in order to teach here.

I think a benefit of public school that isn't always mentioned is that it's easier to meet other new people when you arrive. I know there are plenty of hagwons employing a few foreigners, but settling in will be that bit tougher if you're arriving at a different time to the other new people and having to go out looking for friends.
