Hey guys,
I have a Skype interview tomorrow, my first, it's been a slow and long process. The position pays 2.4 with no overtime. Should I be suspicious?

Also I'll be on a F4, what is the procedure with changing jobs just in case?

Thanks

F4 good for you. 2.4 with no overtime? Do you mean the position pays 2.4 and if you work overtime past regular contracted hours you do not get paid extra.

Plus I would check on the other benefits. I know some schools like to dick with F4 a little. They might be offering that but then no apartment or plane ticket?

The key is read the contract. Check about hours and overtime pay. See what else is promised?

The 5 days gets me a bit. Though If I can leave for another offer if one comes up it obviously isn't a problem. If I leave would there be any consequences? I've read giving notice ends up with more problems

no problem other than your boss will talk about you badly, if ever contacted. Since you will have an F series visa there is also no problem finding a job and just quitting. Giving notice is best resolved on a case by case basis. see how the treat you first.

All of this is true. But more importantly, did I read that you'll be working 9 hours per day, 6 days per week, with no overtime pay?
With an F4 you'd be better off taking something with fewer hours and lower pay, then having the option of doing private lessons. Regardless of your interest in doing privates, 54hrs/wk isn't worth 2.4 per month... though the actual contract may specify something different.

It is not bad job. Hours are typical. The pay is a little above base pay. But the question is why? The 3 to 11 can be hard. The housing allowance is fine, but that does not cover key money or deposit. Also the housing can be fine if you live in a lower class residence, but if your school is a higher class area -apartment rates can be higher.

Some places can be fine with some classes, little desk warming, fine it is 10 o'clock you can leave to horrible of no desk warming - class, class, class and we will pay a crud over time rate, and prep prep prep in the non class time.

Nothing about pension is mentioned. So you may have to pay the fully yourself if I suspect the school is doing a Independent Contractor. That lowers the money per month.

Another question is to find out is why do they want a F4.
It could be language - maybe they expect some dual language ability.
It could be the benefits with hiring a F4. Less visa hassles. Easier to fire.
The school could also think they can still hire without dealing with visa paperwork like CRC, Degree check, health. Maybe. But those rules have changed.

Still the best thing is to check with a present or past teacher of the school.

Good Luck

Thanks guys

Well I think I might take it up if I get it, just to get a feel for it. Once i'm in the country taking up part time and private lessons (corporate maybe?) may be the way to go. More flexibility and control, or even find a better position while working.

My cousin mentioned something about Yonsei University (teaching/tutoring or learning Korean while teaching), but i'm assuming the selection criteria is notoriously hard?

Do the usual CRC and Diploma checks not apply? I've been going through the expensive and time consuming process of getting them notarised and apostilled. In Australia each page is $60 just to apostille... Do F4s have to do a drug test as well, Would that involve notarisation and etc ?

Recently the Korean Government has changed the requirements. The E-2 Visa for waygook had to submit papers like CRC, Health Check, Degree Verification to immigration. Before the F-4s could avoid having to do this. But now you have to. The department who wants it is different - the "Ministry of Education" aka MOE wants the papers. You will need to submit originals too them. As to the proper way it is still being fiqured out. Just get the papers a E-2 would want to be on the safe side.

I am certain the papers are only needed for schools dealing with children ala hagwons, public schools, and such. As to private tutoring, adult hagwons, company classes I do not know about papers. I am thinking yes.

Maybe some schools may risk not worrying about it. But if a school is checked up on and you do not have papers done, you could find yourself out and on your ass. Possibly facing some fines.

Still, do get the paperwork done. Better to get done while you are in OZ. Then having to find out you need them later and dealing with more problems trying to get from Korea. Plus it would be more expensive.

As to the Health Check - aka Drug Testing and STD check will be done here in Korea. You will likely have to visit a registered hospital here before a certain time. Then the check will have to be submitted to MOE. No apposilization for the health check is needed (if done in Korea) Still I am uncertain about one aspect. Do you have the F4 already. If not to apply for the Visa the process maybe different for the first time.

Good Luck.

Thanks Skippy, Makes sense

Are the documents just for MOE/Immigration( i.e. Do schools actually require any documentation, especially I end up teaching in multiple schools)?

Do the Immi/MOE accept photocopies of the original apostilled and notarized, or should I get 2 or 3 hard copies of the CRC and Diploma apostilled and notarized

Thanks again!
Don

I was told no photocopies (for the E-2, though I assume it's standard Kimmi protocol). I just went through process recently, and while there were no issues, were I to do it again I'd have ordered a couple copies since they're only a few dollars more (in the States) yet saves months of time in case the documents are lost.

Best of luck.

Thanks guys
Interview went well apperantly, have to submit a video though. They said just to bring the originals and they make copies. Might as well make another apostilled copy of the CRC and diploma though, might as well pay the $240 now than double that later.
