Hello everyone,
I currently have a great job in a public high school in Seoul. I would love to [code]re-sign, but SMOE and EPIK wont be placing any foreign teachers high or middle schools. I really dont feel comfortable teaching elementary students, and as a licensed English teacher I really dont want to work in a hagwon. I am looking to apply to a foreign language middle school or high school, but I dont know the best way to begin. I have a girlfriend who loves in Seoul so I would really prefer to stay here too. With EPIK you just get placed in a school, but Im not sure about the procedure when it comes to other private intuitions.

Any help would be very appreciated!

Your post isn't really clear. Are you talking about public FLHS? Or private schools with higher-level English programs [Catholic schools, etc]? Or are you talking about international schools?

The answer would depend quite a bit on which is correct. Overall, however, trying to get a position at any of these types in Seoul will be quite difficult. There's not that many of them, and the teachers there tend to stay a while. Especially now, with many experienced public HS teachers being laid off in Seoul, like yourself, due to the new SMOE policy. Licensed teacher will help, but it will still be a heavy lift. You'd be better off looking elsewhere, someplace with a fairly short train ride to Seoul.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't mean an international school, but I didn't realize there were both public AND private foreign language schools. I would love to stay in Seoul, but I certainly realize the current situation makes things a bit more difficult.

I didn't realize that there were foreign language schools other than international schools. I am getting my US certification now for secondary math/science and am planning on applying to the international schools after getting certified. As there aren't many international schools in Seoul (or the rest of Korea), I am very interested what other options there are; what are these foreign language schools?
Thanks and good luck to all!

A foreign language high school for example, is typically a school where only Koreans attend, unlike an international school. The major difference is the academic level is much higher than regular schools and there is a greater emphasis on English. Students will also have the oppertunity to study other foreign languages.

I would still really like to know if anyone has information regarding these type of schools.
