The basic problem - I've got a netbook w/o a dvd drive. Didn't bring my portable usb dvd drive to Korea.

I was able to rip an educational disc yesterday using Magic ISO and got the expected ISO file. I took the ISO home on my usb and it appeared pretty much as expected. Unzipped it using WinRar w/o issues.

Tried to play it and it doesn't work.

I'm trying to get copies of my school's dvd's for the grades we are teaching onto my netbook for use.

What's the best workaround?

Have you tried just mounting the ISO using daemon tools or virtual clone drive or something?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to give those programs a try next week on one of the DVD's from school.

On a related note - I downloaded a copy of COD 1 which is "packaged" as 2 cd iso's. I go through the install procedures for disc 1 which is mounted and then the install program wants iso cd2 to continue. I'm afraid I'm getting into a lot more detailed question w/ regard to daemon tools and/or virtual drives...I'll have to do some more reading and experimenting. Thanks for the suggestion though on the software to try.

Use Gizmo - so simple. After u've extracted the two ISOs point gizmo to the first, and then the second when prompted. if u have a, b, c, and d already taken, then u would choose e then f, or whatever u want as the virtual drives.

http://arainia.com/software/gizmo/download.html

Also, recommend ImgBurn for the ripping. "Reading" creates mdf and mds files, right click on the mdf file and choose 1'extract here" using winrar. presto!

Thanks denverdeath.

I'll have to fool around some more with it again. In the mean time a found a virus in the COD package I found. Deleted it rather than risk problems.

Given my use of a netbook I should have looked into the virtual drive and daemon tools long ago. Even an ultra laptop I'm looking at seem to be w/o a dvd drive.

New era really.

Likely, the virus is a false positive from a crack, but may b better being safe than sorry.

Yeah, I"ve gone both ways on that in the past. Sometimes thing are cool and sometimes you spend the next day reformatting and loading windows & software....you probably know the deal.

Honestly your best option would probably be to bite the bullet and buy an external USB dvd drive O.o. You can find them all over Yongsan (They go for around $80 last time I checked)

You can use a combination of DVD decryptor and DVD shrink to copy almost any movie off a disc, and if its stubborn you might have to find a version of anydvd hd.

Kain,

Thanks for the response. In the end, I think you're probably right. I've got an external dvd drive back in the States. My contract ends here this summer so I''ll probably just make do until I return.

Using a netbook for the last two years has basically been great. Terrific for traveling and can do everything I need out of it but when ya' need a dvd drive it has occasionally been a pain. I think I'm at the end of my netbook days as I'm starting to want a bigger screen for my eyes and the truth is, I wouldn't really lug a portable anything around that much......

Again, thanks for the responding.

Not sure about Gizmo. I used to use Alcohol 120% ( http://www.google.ie/#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=alcohol+cd+mounting+software&oq=alcohol+cd+mounting+software&aq=f&aqi=q-w1&aql=&gs_nf=1&gs_l=hp.3..33i21.1857.9853.0.9966.32.26.0.5.5.1.217.3447.6j17j2.31.0.MCgJ-LIb7b8&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=e19d74c3290f92e7&biw=1024&bih=630 ) way back when. That's still used. Like Kain says though, get a drive and save yourself the hassle. Remember how long it took to finally get rid of floppy discs? I think the days of CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blue Ray are definitely numbered though.

You ripped it with magic ISO. Use the same program to open the ISO and play the files inside with your media player or extract the vob files to another folder on your HDD and just play them or mount it with magic disc and play it like a regular dvd.
