Hi,

Does anyone have any hints on good websites to buy aircon from in Seoul. We'll need it installed too, but ideally don't want to pay a fortune - we just want something that keeps the place cool and isn't noisy.

We have a two bedroom place with a living room / kitchen, so we may need something with units for each room - i'm not sure whether putting a single unit in the living room would be enough to cool the bedrooms too. It's 21 pyong in total.

Thanks in advance,

Alistair

I just use one of the wall mounted samsung ones in the bedroom and then put a fan in it in the day blowing out to the rest of the house, after an hour or so the whole apartment has cooled, after an afternoon the whole place is like a fridge. You could grab one from a second hand place for about 150000 - 200000 and pay 100,000 for the outside wall mount and installation fee or just buy a new one. I would personally buy second hand.

Get a 6 pyeong wall unit and place it in the living room. The unit itself costs 400,000 brand new (Carrier ones around 350,000) thus the installation which is perhaps another 100,000 if there are no complications.

Your place is probably not 21 pyeong anyways, more like about 15 pyeong. A 6 pyeong unit will cool twice that big area without a problem, perhaps even more. You dont need to cool the bathroom and balcony anyways. Those units are 2,3 Kwh so it wont hurt that bad when the electricity bill comes even if you use it quite a lot. Do not buy a standing unit as those are usually about 6 Kwh and will spin your meter like crazy.

Check out GMarket...think I got mine on there last summer for about 350,000, including installation. I have a two room place too, with the kitchen in between the living room and the bed room. I put the aircon in the bedroom and if I put in on for a while, the whole house gets cool, even in the living room where the sofa is at the complete opposite end of the house from where the unit is. Think mine is only about 6 pyeong too...

Of course, I would have put mine in the kitchen in the middle of the two rooms if I could have, but there was no room for it.
