For those of you who are follically challenged like me.
Anyone have a prescription for either drug in Korea? How much does is cost?
I used to wait until I flew home for a holiday and then would get enough proscar to last at least a year at a time. But if you can get a prescription in Korea for a reasonable price I'd rather do that. Upon my return to the ROK I don't plan on coming back to this country very often.

For those of you who aren't familiar. Proscar is a drug used to treat an enlarged prostate. The side-effect of this is hair growth on the scalp. Weeoo! There are 5mg of finistrade(the active ingredient) in each tablet of proscar....much more than you need for hair growth. So they repackaged it as Propecia at 1 mg and quadrupled the charge for it. My doctor in Canada prescribes Proscar for me to save on cost and I break each tablet into 4's. Cheap! It has worked quite well for me and I've been on it for over a decade. With the rate of hair loss I was experiencing in my twenties I for sure should be bald on top by now....at least in the front.

Anyone in Korea on Proscar?

And no....I have no need for Viagra since using proscar lol.

I first inquired about Propecia and was prescribed Proscar at the international clinic in Itaewon back in 2007. Since then I have gotten four month prescriptions (12 months cut up in quarters) from two different doctors. I've just been going to urologists for quick consultations, and it's never been an issue. I believe the four month prescription, which is not covered by the national health plan, only costs around 150,000-170,000. Far cheaper than Propecia where I am from!

Is that four months of Propecia or cut Proscar? I'm curious whether I should buy in the States or wait until I get back to Korea, as it's like $200 for 60 5mg Proscar in the States.

Ok thanks!

It's substantially cheaper over here in Canada. I'll get enough for a year before heading to Korea. Good to know it's an option to get it over there though.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's what I got when I was first prescribed. It's been Proscar ever since. Are we talking a 4 month supply before or after the pills are cut up?

Just an update on this in case anyone is interested. I got 30 tablets of proscar (4 months worth) and it only cost 30,000 won! And the Dr. even apologized for it not being covered by insurance lol. I was worried that it was going to cost much, much more. Some days I really love Korea.

Proscar is available at pharmacies no prescription. At least in my experience, the one time I got it that was the case.
For nutritional hair support, best is dashima (kelp) pills.

It works very well. However there are side effects. It can mess with your sex drive, sperm count, and semen quality. I've been on it for almost 5 years and it stopped my hair loss. I did not experience a loss in sex drive, but I did notice changes to my semen quality. It was watery and less creamy. The girl and I decided to have a kid in the summer so I stopped taking it. Within 3 months of trying she became pregnant and we are expecting in June. I've since started taking it again. During the 3-4 months I was off it I think I lost a bit more but that is ok with me because I still have a full head of hair with just minor loss. I would recommend it to anyone but would caution about the side effects. There are some horror stories out there and not much research done on it.

Propecia is 1 mg and a six month supply was 350,000 won or was it a year? I can't remember. Mostly, I've used proscar. It is 5 mg and you have to cut it into 4 pieces. It was 95,000 won for a year's worth or was that six months? I haven't been taking it lately. Been forgetful. I should get back on that.

Anyways, one is cheaper than the other because of the extra work. You also can go to any doctor for this prescription, I think. It's not covered by prescription unless you are diagnosed with an enlarged prostrate and it is used to treat that.
