Alright I think I'm going to look for a good spot in Gangwon-do.
Schwa, you spent a while in Sokcho. I've been there, and I liked it. Have you been down to Gangneung or Donghae?
Are there any major differences between those areas? |

For your health concerns, I second Gangwondo. It's one of my favorite areas of Korea for that reason as well as many others. It's no wonder so many seoulites make the weekend escape over there (causing bad traffic jams on the express highways to my chagrin).
But to help you out a little more....Chuncheon (provencial capital) and Wonju are the major cities with more going on. Some of the smaller but still nice towns are Gangneung, Sokcho and Donghae (coastal towns).
Only place I would avoid is Taebaek. It's an old mining center surrounded by high mountains (possibly trapping air pollution) and because...it's a mining center! ha~ Imagine being in some bfe Pennsylvania mining town....it's kinda like that.
Hope that helps and good luck! |

Thanks, yeah I'll definitely choose one of those coastal towns. The salt air has always done my body good.
Anyone live in Gangneung? |

since your body is sensitive i'd ask your school to buy a air cleaner for both your room in-class and room at your apartment before you start. that should help alleviate some of your issues.
on a side note, has anyone ever seen any reports on how much pollution all the smoking in korea adds? i wonder if it's negligible or actually makes an impact... |

I would think Gangwon and Jeju have pretty clean air as do most of the coastal areas, except Incheon & Busan. It makes sense that Daejeon has the cleanest air of any metropolis in Korea since most of their industrial complexes house high-tech companies.
Not so sure about Geoje since it has two major shipyards (Samsung & Daewoo), but it's GOT to be cleaner than Suwon. |
