| How long does a visa blacklist last? I was fired in 2009 and my director told immigration I quit. He was a cheater and a thief. Fired me to avoid paying bonus. I tried to get a job after, in 2010 and my visa came back denied. How long will I be denied and is there any appeal process? |

It's on a case by case basis. Also the only way you can find out is keep applying until you are accepted for a visa...
If I were you I'd give up on SK. Go to China (Beijing or Shanghai only) and get a job with Longman - good hours and same pay conditions as SK (assuming you have over 2 yrs experience teaching esl, otherwise it's slighty less, but due to cost of living, savings work out simmilar...)
Failling that, try to get in SK on a studetn visa by signing up to same cheapo language course and then you're allowed to work up to about 16 hrs a week. Get a pt gig that'll pay you 30k an hour = 480k a week X 4 = almost 2 mil. Get 40k an hr and you're golden... |

Thanks Sultan. I might just do that. I actually had a job in China starting Feb 1 but I turned it down cause I was waiting on Japan. I was hired, but I didnt like where they put me, so I turned it down. I may look at China again. Korea was just appealing to me cause they pay for the flight.

Just be sure to avoid Disney.
A friend just started at Longman. 16 hrs teaching and 20 office hrs a week. ot paid at 200rmb. Gets flight money BACK to his home country, but yeah not to fly there. He also said you need about 2mil won to start up to cover rent deposit and 2 months up-front and money to live on until you get paid. Unless you live with a friend or stay in a cheapo hostel for a cpl months until you can afford rent deposits etc... So yeah, you need flight up-front and usually 2 months rent plus one months deposit - he put down 3 x 2700rmb.
He says he likes it way better than working in Korea, which he did for over 5 yrs. He did also say that the first month is pretty tough as you have to do a lot of stuff by yourself, but with the aid of a Chinese supervisor. After that you are fine though. |

Yeah, I heard 'losing' your passport and applying with a new passport number can work too. |

| Best to make sure the new passport is in a new name. Costs a fair bit to get a failed visa application, doesn't it? |

Yes, avoid Disney by all means. With that being said, avoid Longman, cause they are just as bad.
Does your friend live in Shanghai or Beijing? If so, I can only imagine what kind of place that he got for 2700rmb.
I like it here better than I did in Korea as well, but then again I don't work for Disney or Longman. |

It is the equivalent of a hakwon chain. It is owned/operated by the actual Disney Corporation. |

The friend is me. Longman is good. Better than any job I had in SK including ps. 16 hrs a week and I'm saving 700 pounds a month with same lifestyle I had in Korea easilly, if not better. Do 30 hrs a week like some hakwan teachers and I'd clear over 4k usd a month, I in fact have a firend who is doing just that.
I pay 2700rmb a month and live near a subway staion less than 30 mins to people's square. Have a 5 room apt about 80 sq metres, modern, nice gardened grounds and guarded complex. Two large malls nearby with a carrefour etc..
Come check it out if you don't believe me - you can bring a case of beers with ya on your dime, of course...
You will not find one bad post online on the whole of the net about Longman, trust me, I tried very hard to find one.
I hope this post gets deleted honestly, as I want how good it can be in China with the right school, to remain a secret... |
