For all of those of you who like the New Interchange series (not I), be advised that a revised edition, now back to being called just Interchange came out last month.
Apart from some snazzy new grahpics and an improved layout, It really isn't that much different from the old one.

Only good teachers can sustain free talking
Sure take in a book, I liked "listen In".
But I think there are more interesting ways to teach.
ie drama, project work etc.
I wrote my own too.
It can be more relevent!!! |

| Good books for a single adult as well. I've used Interchange, but I'd like to see what else is available. This new guy I got is going to live in the US for six months, so what would be a good complimentary book? |

I know this is an old thread, but maybe there are some fresh ideas out there.
In my current situation, I have an upper-intermediate class three times a week with a rotating cast of students. Often just one shows up. They don't really like using books like Let's Talk and would rather talk about personal topics.
I had some luck with personality quizzes, but that ran out of steam. I have had free convo but again, even if we had a great chat for 90 minutes, I can't see that lasting before we run out of material.
Any ideas? |

As was posted a few years ago, Interchange is still a good book for low-intermediate level students.
There is a ton that you can do with the book and it is usually a good baseline for conversations. It will take you a few months to get through at least. |

I recommend Can You Believe It? Stories and Idioms from Real Life, Book 1 - 3
I used it for my adult classes and it seems to work. They get hooked into the real life stories which motivates them. |

Thanks! I'll look around for that. Real-life topics seem like a good idea. |
