This MUST be possible, right? More times than I can count, I've found myself stuck at a bus stop with an empty t-money card, and no Family Mart/7-11 for a mile.

I've got online banking on my phone, and it works brilliantly. Is there a virtual account number I can send the money to? I mean, I can actually send money home to Canada in 3 minutes flat via. my iPhone (it takes 24 hours to process, but that's to be expected).

Anyone know how to do it?

Well, I think you got your answer. I take the bus to and from work and I've been there before, whew. But why not just drop a hundo or two into your T-money? I've been working on a device that will make the same beeping sound when you press it against something inside of a wallet or something else. It would only work for bus fares, but will end up saving me quite a bit in the long run. Let me know if you're interested.

I wouldn't want to just put a bunch of cash on the card, on the off-chance that I lost the card. Since there doesn't seem to be any way of registering your balance, etc.

These particular types, in theory, support online top-up over the internet through its USB thumbdrive circuit. Sad truth is, nevertheless, even T-Money company doesn't actually have them in stock in their online shop. (which is http://www.t-money.co.kr/jsp/tpub/shop/index.jsp) Probably because no one really orders them, given most people use simple cash-basis cards or the traffic card loaded on their credit cards.

Now, there is something called 자동충전카드, which means 'automatic re-loader card'. Same technology as those credit cards with traffic card circuit, but 3 banks supposedly offer this function on a bank card/check card. By 'automatic', it means that once your T-money credit falls below preset floor, additional credit will be automatically deducted from your bank account balance and loaded on your T-money by touching in on ordinary T-Money fare collectors on buses or at metro stations. Line 9, Shin-Bundang and Airport Express turnstiles, however, are excluded from these automatic reloading spots due to contractual issues.

support automatic top-up. The rest are ordinary cash-basis T-money.

Fair warning though, even if you walk into the nearest branch of those three financial institutions and ask for one of those particular cards, there's a very very big chance that the bank employee there would respond as if 'WTF are you talking about?'

Print out the contents of the above links if you must, and they'll probably have to make several calls to some department in their HQ before getting you sign on any of such 'affiliation products.'

Dont all of the banks offer to tie T-money to your debit/credit card now?

I know both of my Shinhan cards work as T-money cards, the standard visa debit card and their credit card both are usable. There is no fee associated with using them and if it gets lost, you can just call and easily cancel it. Also, it never runs out of money since it is tied to my bank account.
