NYC, which document did you get authenticated by the embassy for use in the US? Is it the Proof of Marriage Report (수리증명서) or Marriage Certificate (혼인관계증명서)? I'm married to a Korean and we're heading to the States this summer, so I want to be prepared.

I believe it was the marriage certificate. It was whatever one I got at the gu office that said we were married. I had that translated and notarized, then brought THAT to the embassy for some sort of stamp.

So the price was W400? Is this 400,000 Won or 400Won? Because 400,000 seems expensive for paperwork, but 400 seems mighty cheap...

When I paid for it the certificate was 300 won per copy (300, not 300,000). The other documents (notarizing and translation) cost about 25,000 per copy. The embassy stamp or whatever may have been another 50,000 or so. It was about a year ago, so I don't remember exactly. Budget for a few 100,000 won and use the extra and have a nice lunch.

400 won was not a typo, that's what the gu office charged. Our embassies charged us $50.00 apiece for affirmation that we'd never married, but the Seoul government only wanted 4 shiny baek wons.

At that price, you can't afford NOT to get married here.
