i heard from some students that the korean version of the s3 is supposed to be a tad slower. the euro/n.a. version will be quadcore, but the korean model will be dualcore. haven't been able to find any info yet though.

From what I've been reading, there will be two different models of the S3 coming to Korea. A 3g-only quad-core model will be available in June only from SK telecom. An LTE dual-core model will be available in July on all three carriers. Apparently there is something about the quad core processor and the LTE radio that won't work together for some reason. Europe is only getting the 3g version. The LTE models in North America will apparently be dual-core also.

This leaves me with an interesting conundrum. I've been waiting what seems like forever to replace my old Galaxy S1. Opting for the 3g version of the S3 would give me a new phone a month earlier, twice the number of cores, as well as the possibility of keeping my unlimited 3g data plan. On the other hand, if I wait an extra month I can get LTE, will be forced to move to a limited LTE data plan, and get the dual core processor.

Any thoughts?

Is LTE worth it?
How noticeable is the difference between dual and quad core?

Which one would you buy?

Why do/would you need LTE? Do you use any apps or use any video sites that'd benefit from it? Personally all the data intensive stuff I do is at home or in my office, and I have WIFI in both places negating the need for a fast connection. I have no problem browsing the internet etc. with 3G. I personally wouldn't benefit from LTE in the slightest, but I wouldn't be affected by the data cap either since I only use 2 or 3gb a month anyway.

Actually, what's the point of having a faster connection if you have a data cap anyway? It seems to defeat the purpose of it to me.

i didnt have a good experence with sammy support on the galaxy s 1. how can a hacker introduce a fix to the lag problem from the get go that a multi billion dollar company cant solve over a year later by which time i sold it. my guess is they have so many different product lines and configurations of the same device that their engineering resources are just strecthed thin for adequate support.

Or they would rather just see you buy their next phone.

Yeah, I have a GS2HD LTE and I'd definitely go back to 3G in a flash if I could. The GS3 is not really any better than my current phone if you get the dual-core LTE model... terrible refresh, worse than the new iPad one for sure.

This is nice to hear. I plan on upgrading my iPhone 4 to the Galaxy S3 and was debating whether to go with LTE or 3G. While the speed increase in LTE would be nice, having a data limit and dual-core only is a big disappointment. I think I will go with 3G

Most likely the LTE version will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Not sure which one though. Probably would want to wait for performance reviews before putting any money down. Personally i'd grab the quad core Exynos 3G version, I get 200-300KB/s down in urban areas and that's fine for general use.

My contract ends in the fall and I'm probably going to get the the S3. It's rumored that the iPhone 5 will have a 4 inch screen, which to me is a bit small compared to other smartphones. I think the 4.8 inch screen will be nice to look at and easier to carry in the pocket than the Note.

I've been waiting to hear about the S3 (hell, I started the thread), and now I'm not sure that it was worth the wait after all, especially if these quad-core/3G and dual-core/LTE rumours are true.

Some of the new features are cool and practical, but others seem a bit gimmicky and probably not all that useful.

I'm going from a pay-as-you-go slide phone, so anything is going to seem like a huge upgrade for me. I may just go with the 4S, or pick up someone's Galaxy S2 contract.

Do they sell HTC phones here? Ive never really looked for them, but the HTC One X is getting rave reviews and is basically on par with the S3

For those concerned about the size, the 4.8" is the biggest I would be willing to go. My coworker has a Note and the thing is unwieldy and stupid. Koreans go nuts over the stylus for some reason, but as expected they never do anything worthwhile with it. I like the size of the GS2HD LTE and I don't think I can go to 3.7" iPhone, but I could be persuaded to get a 4" iPhone perhaps. The style of the Galaxy S3 is pretty horrible, so I am deeply disappointed in the launch.

It's surprising if the next iPhone does change the screen size because it would create fragmentation in its lineup but Apple is known to adamantly deny something only to adopt it later on.

I was pretty set on getting the LTE version until I heard that the 3G model is the only one getting the quad-core processor? I usually take the subway in Seoul every day and it's frustrating how slow the 3G/Wifi is when watching video or browsing. Decisions decisions....

I got my wife to look because I think I would get one of these over the S3 if I have the choice. She said all she could find was coming soon but nothing specific.

This doesn't look good for the S3:
