it's below Daejeon while being in the same province, as i said. if i give you any more clues than that, i'd be telling you exactly where i'll live. you want my exact location, while claiming you don't need my exact location to help me. surely you can step into my new balance sneakers and understand why i find this ridiculous, yeah?

anyway. let's just say i am using EPIK, for the sake of convenience. and actually, none of this is for me. it's for a friend. 's uncle.

You can't say EPIK because EPIK is a huge area. You have SMOE, GEPIK, and EPIK. SMOE is just Seoul, GEPIK is GYEONGGIDO an area around Seoul which you now have stated you are not in, and EPIK is everything else. See how big it is? No recruiter is going to know where you are if you say EPIK.

You say you know it is in the same province, yet you think EPIK is convenient reference term? Try some new balance sneakers.

So, we will go with this "same" province claim. Ok, same province.

Let's look here then at the provinces http://imedia.io/illustrations/South_Korea-12.png

This is "NORTH JEOLLA". Too far south? Then we have 2 other provinces, SOUTH CHUNGCHEON west of Daejeon, and NORTH CHUNGCHEON east of Daejeon. Daejeon is right there in the center.

So, your reference to only one province is ambiguous because of this. Which province exactly is it? There is no way to know exactly which province, so how would anyone know the exact location?

I'll give you a scale.

COUNTRY-------PROVINCE------CITY------TOWN-------NEIGHBORHOOD

If you stop at the "city" that is good enough. You don't have to give the exact town or street name in the neighborhood. Put 25 cents in again and try another round.

Here is something you might want to learn I teach my students.

After you made up your mind which province, you can use this handy pattern:

_____ is in the ____ part of _____

For example:

Jeonju is in the northwestern part of North Jeolla.

My school is in the _____ part of ____.

None of this would reveal your exact location and we could help you determine how close you are to a highway. The person before me couldn't figure it out either for obvious reasons.

Too many if's.

holy shit, you stalker. i've given you all the information i'm giving you, and it's more than enough for any sane person. fyad.ytmnd.com, do it.

thank you, sector. i really do have a lot of questions, but as i said, i don't feel comfortable identifying myself on the internet. if anyone who lives near that area or knows about that area could PM me, i'd greatly appreciate it.

He already stated Iksan. You are free to post it now Laughing

I am done. I was just curious the general area. For future reference, you can say, "I am ___ of Iksan".

I am sure there are plenty of hagwons and public schools. Saying Iksan won't give your exact location away.

I'm sure there's something to do around Geumsan or nearby Muju, or wherever you'll be. It would help if you liked the outdoors. I think you're right to protect your identity. As long as it's still legal to have anonymity, I'd take it.

There are a lot of people on these boards that like to convince you that Seoul is so much more amazing than the rest of Korea. It isn't really. If you're a dull person, you'll be easily entertained with Seoul, because you are boring. If you're an "interesting" person, Seoul is big enough to satisfy some of this boredom with it's plethora of foreign people and restaurants. My advice is to find something to stimulate you intellectually, whether it's writing, astronomy, or learning Korean, or whatever.

Personally, I wouldn't get too comfortable there unless you find a woman who's willing to tolerate you. Also, I think it's the right choice to work in a public school in nowhere rather than a hagwon "somewhere" for your first year, or any year given the choice, but that's just my opinion.

If you are not an experienced teacher, don't think that you are automatically learning more about teaching than you would in a hagwon. The advantage of working in a hagwon in your first year, is you learn much more about real working life in Korea - the way Koreans work. You're buffered from that in a way at a public school as you're paid by Chungcheongnam province or Jeollabuk-do or whoever. And don't expect the red carpet. The school is required to have a foreign English teacher by the government, but that doesn't mean they want you there necessarily. Some of the Korean teachers will be happy to see you there, and some will be disappointed that you are there, and they have their reasons so don't worry about that.

i do love the outdoors. i am planning on doing a lot of hiking, for sure. i can't wait to hike the mountains there. but i figure i can do that regardless of where i live in korea.

i'm an introvert, but i do like socialization... however, i'm going to try not to judge this before even getting there. i think i'm just having the normal last minute fears that go along with such a big move. deep breaths!

Closest to Daejeon would then spell "Daejeon". I think we found our crosshairs.

If someone asks where you are going to work, that is a fine reply, "I will be very close to Daejeon." No one is going to know the exact location. Daejeon is not that small of an area relative to other cities in Korea. You can easily take buses to Seoul or Busan.

Or would I have to stick it out? I mean, don't get me wrong, I can know I can do it, and I know there's also a strong possibility I'll love the peace/time to write seriously and just use the weekends to travel, but I have the feeling there may come a time I'll wish I at least knew the answer to this question.

I just re-read these parts, eventually, and now think this may be the perfect place for you. Solitude for your writing, but distraction only 30 minutes away when the moon is full and you need to get the yayas out.
