I realize another thread about the Expo was just started, but it was about peoples' experiences at Expo so I didn't want to hijack it.
I'm planning to head to Yeosu either next weekend or the one after and I'm going to need a hotel for Friday and Saturday night (I know the first couple weekends will probably be quite busy, but I'd rather get down there before Yeosu gets oppressively hot and humid). I'll probably be arriving Friday afternoon and so I'm thinking a lot of the hotels in Yeosu will either be full or have jacked up their rates considerably. So I'm thinking about staying in Suncheon, as I have to pass through there anyways. Are there a lot of cheap hotels in Suncheon, and if so, what area are most of them in? I'm thinking 30-40,000 won max for a single room.
Also I've looked at the official English Expo site, but I can't find their opening hours. Do any of you know what time they open and close?
Thanks |

Nice little city, is Yeosu.
Most motels range from 25k - 40k. You should find one in the downtown part no problemo, loads of huge 20 floor motels there.
If you are a seafood fan, make sure to go to the old market (shi-jjang) and you can get the most delicious and massive seafood spread for 40k including; hwae, crab; mussells; oyters; all kinds of sea cucumbers etc and tons and tons of soup and side dishes - 40k will feed 3 easilly. All fresh outta the sea.
Also, if you get time; have a half day trip on the island of odong-do which is accessable by land bridge and is right next to the train station. very scenic this time of year and fab half day out!
Being in the PRC right now in Shanghai, I really miss how easilly it is to find close-by scenic spots anyhwere in SK, all I see now is fields of concrete as far as the eye can see both horizontally and vertically... |

Expect accommodation prices to skyrocket around the time of the Yeosu Expo. Koreans are HORRENDOUS when it comes to this. |

Double is one thing, but in Korea's first F1 race, crappy yeogwans nearby were charging 300,000 to 400,000 won per night. |

I went down there today, but only for a day-trip, so can't speak about accommodations. But I will say this. Better book your return train tickets the same time you book the ones going down.
It was standing room only on the way home, like the trains in India I've seen pictures of.

If you must go there, it'd be wiser to make it a day-trip, by train. |
