They have that horrible salty plus slightly sweet/sugary taste that is in every damn snack in this country.
The nacho cheese flavor tastes more or less like the off brand Nacho chips that have been around for years. And the "Extreme Barbecue flavor is so horrible I can't even find the words.
They've already ruined Cheetos! And now Doritos?! Is nothing sacred?!!!! |

Korean chips are horrible. I didn't even know there were Korean Doritos, but I'm definitely not surprised. I remember my second day here, seeing "Cheetos" in the mini-mart, feeling excited, purchasing them, walking home, opening the bag, munching down on one, then realizing what a horrible decision I had made with my life. |

I can't believe you're remotely surprised. The 'meat' or 'ribs' flavor, or whatever that's supposed to be, was so awful after about 3 chips, just to be sure I wasn't imagining how bad it was, I handed the bag over to my middle schoolers; even my dog back home would turn up her nose at some foods, but my students will apparently eat anything.
The so-called nacho is an insult to the original. I can taste no difference whatsoever compared to that Korean kind in the orange bag, with the Inca princess or whoever on it. You called it on the 'slightly sweet' bit. Revolting. I hope Frito-Lay realizes this and pulls their brand soon.
I can't even eat their potato chips any more, for this same reason. After a bag of Lay's about 2 months ago, I said the hell with the mushy Korean crap. Never eating Poca chips or any of the others again. And God help you if you want a bag of normal salted peanuts. There's always some damn coating of something vaguely sweet on them.
Go to Itaewon and get the proper American kind. Koreans and their taste for DISGUSTING butchery of normal food [mayonnaise and corn on pizza? Check. Strawberry jam on a ham sandwich? Check. Red pepper paste in spaghetti? Check.], strikes again. |

Why would anyone spend time eating doritos in Korea? |

Doritos taste like crap period. Nacho cheese, Cool Ranch, Taco- either here or back home. An absolutely horrible food that putrifies one's breath, leaves orange chemical residue all over one's hands and anything they touch, and has absolutely no nutritional value. Doritos are the KPop of snack foods.
Now what the snack food tragedy is, is that the only darn tortilla chips in this country are the generic yellow discs you get at the movies or baseball games. That and unsalted pretzels are difficult to find.

While it is true that Korea butchers perfectly respectable foods- Sugared garlic bread? Check. Hot dogs in sweet bread? Check. Honey mustard on everything? Check. Excessive thousand island in salads? Check. Oversugared soy sauce on chicken? Check. Excessive water in beer? Check. Excessive sugar in coffee? Check. Peach syrup in iced tea? Check. Too little sauce on pizza (though probably a good thing with sauce here)? Check. Red bean in doughnuts? Check.
Where was I? Oh yes, while all that may be true...Americans are just as bad...Cheese on everything? Check. Meat in salads? Check. Deep fried this? Check. Cream sauce this and that? Check. Process that? Check. Icing on cakes that ensures a dentist's visit? Vegetables soaked in butter? Check. Cheap food is always of a yellowish-brown hue? Check. Corn or tater tots as a vegetable? Check.
At least back home we know places to find good food and can get affordable groceries to make our own. Here we're at the whims of supplies and trends. |

Hah, Steelrails, that was pretty good. I KNEW we'd hear the inevitable takedown of Doritos, but...your list of Korean food butchery outdoes mine. Touche.
And as for American tastes, I concede that in some areas, as you say, we have little to brag about. All of us globally have our disgusting areas and shortcomings in terms of food. But at least Americans have alternatives to the worst stuff. Koreans, well... |

Even worse is recent Korean butchery of Korean foods- Spam in Kimbap. Corn syrup by the gallon in ddukbokki, Kimchi for kimchi's sake, bleached rice, Overly-sweet marinades on KBBQ, Fried rice drowned in ketchup, "Let's add Chicken butt!", and a bunch of other stuff I'm probably forgetting. |

The local Kimbap restaurant sometimes refuses to take meat out of my food. They started putting ground beef in bibimbap and when I ask them to take it out, they say: "but it's not delicious without beef!" The same with Kimbap. They will not take the ham out unless I beg and then they debate to each other whether or not they should sneak meat/fish into it.
I wonder if they've forgotten about Korea's vegetarian-by-necessity roots. |

Yeah, pretty much all Korean chips are just nasty. Thankfully the local Home Plus carries western style from time to time. |

I like their bbq flavored cheetos better than the American one, and there is this bag with chili peppers on the bag that taste good. |

The 'galbi' brand are decent. Not galbi flavour, it's just a brand, they do decent ready-salted. Not as salted as ones from home, but a nice crips and delicate potato tasting crisp /chip without any nasty flavourings. Their onion flavour are okay too.
Now, where did I put my bag of spicy shrimp flavoured twists... |

You can get delicious light and crispy tortilla chips at Costco. They also have organic salsa that is delicious and not too sweet. I sound like a commercial but those are seriously my two favorite items that they carry. |
