Oh the joys of derails-vision, where if you don't think A then you're B (and only B) and obviously B sucks just as much, if not more.[/quote]
That absolutely nailed it.
It's funny too, as he has this "just let people do whatever" tone (if they are Korean), then goes on rants 10 times as long about random white stereotypes and the things white people supposedly do or like. Um, ok...
That said, I'm sure he'd be great fun at the bar.
The thing about the dancing here is it's almost always some version of the 'running man' circa 1990 or whenever it came out, and they make a big spectacle of it, totally showing off. Who could watch that and not think it was silly too? And you KNOW they stood in front of the TV copying the latest K-pop vid cheese moves over and over. Now why should WE care if they are enjoying themselves? Because it's some funny ish... that's why.
There's stupid stuff everywhere, yes. But there's a lot of it here, and we're gonna laugh at it if we see it. I think Koreans generally dance Ok, but that's because many practice practice, and seem to treat it like a math equation: foot goes exactly here, hand goes here... just trying way too hard to be cool, kind of takes the cool out of it.
Also, even at the bars, some like random dance-offs. Like if they can move spazzy enough somehow they win. Sorry dude, I'm just dancing: the only one competing is YOU. But if you step on my shoe or elbow my ribs one more time... |

You obviously are not familiar with drunken American sorority girls cheering/yelling/stumbling/staggering while dancing to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing".
Turned me off of Journey and is worse than any sober dancer, spazzy or not. |

Does going to the pep rally to be non-conformist make sense?
On meth it does.

Like I said, who doesn't care more what the rest of society (the student body) thinks? A)A bunch of people who make like everyone else and skip school to go eat or smoke weed or play basketball. or B)Some person who cheers for their school because they take pride in their school's reputation and academic achievements and want to feel happy about those things.
THAT's someone who isn't trying to be cool. That's someone who doesn't care what everyone else thinks.
What are people non-conformist because they wear jeans, smoke weed, complain about the government, label everyone else "tools", say that "money isn't important", that they're going to backpack through Europe, not be same lame "wife and kids" type, and listen to obscure music? Never met anyone like that.

All of which are fine. It's not what you do, it's your attitude to people doing it. I don't believe in hating. I don't believe in pointing at people and laughing and then making generalizations about their entire culture (well, I do, but in the spirit of a gang of lads all drunk at the bar and someone from that culture is there and giving back as good as they're gettin), and I DO believe in actually trying to have some coherence to one's viewpoint. I mean seriously, to deny that "Koreans are too conformist" or boring or whatever is NOT a common allegation is absurd. Then the second they actually do stuff like randomly dance in public, people get in a tizzy, it just seems ridiculous. It's like giving someone a bottle of whiskey on their birthday and then complaining that they're drunk.

Fine, just don't act butt hurt if Koreans see you looking or acting silly/stupid and start laughing at it or taking offense to it.
Being a hater is fine, just be able to take it. If you don't like being burned, don't throw out any heat. |

Oh, I've seen that too. Yeah, when you put it like that, I'll take the 'running man' any day! |

The Sopranos made 'Don't stop' cool again, so relax folks.

Oh please. Another misguided rant. I find the 'running man' dance funny. If I do it, I will EXPECT to be laughed at, and that's fine because it will all be in good fun.
The rest of your rant above is full of straw man arguments that don't even apply to me or most people on here. So you're the one coming off as butt hurt as this thread is just poking fun. Another prime example of going off the deep end on some minor issue.
But hey, knock yourself out. |
