Hello,

I am really interested in teaching in Daegu and I've been in contact with both Maple Bear and Moon Kkang and was wondering if anyone has any experience with these Daegu schools and could offer any insight into what either school is like. I know there are a lot of shady private schools in Korea but from what I have read, both of these schools seem to have a better reputation. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have a couple of friends who have been with Moon Kkang for years. They generally take care of the teachers quite well, have great benefits, and a system where you can actually move up (somewhat) if you stay for more than a year or two. Not sure what the branch to branch difference is, but one friend in particular has worked at a couple different branches and has never had complaints.

Maple Bear is a kindergarten. I'd say their reputation is somewhat better than your typical ECC / SLP school, but at the end of the day you'll still be working 9-10 hour days vs 6 at Moon Kkang.

Been years since I was last in Daegu. But MoonKang always from references and people to be a good place. Not the best, but well run and less BS then other schools.

Try for it. Remember to speak to previous and present teachers if you can.

I play sports, we have a softball league, flag football league , Ultimate Frisbee league, rugby, and hopefully a basketball league, with quite a few people that love working at Moon Kkang.

(Selling Daegu a little there)

I've heard it's a good place to work. You get payed on time, no hassle about work, pension and health care is actually taken care, and the people I've meet that are employed there are good folks.

Daegu is a good beginner city. Big enough to get Western comforts and a sizeable expat crowd.

I was told I'll be arriving approximately August 25 (coming very quickly!). I'll be working the 3 hour afternoon shift but I also work Saturday mornings...still sounds like a pretty awesome set up though lol. Feel free to email me (I can't PM on here). My address is [email protected].
