Are these demands reasonable (for 2 certified US teachers)?

Those are all certainly fair points and many are reasons why I work where I do. I wouldn't trade it for anything else at the time.

Just out of curiosity, how many teaching hours does one have to typically put in at a 2-8 hakwon job per week? Is there no marking, test writing, student evaluation, etc... at those jobs? I'm genuinely interested.

Usually thirty hours of teaching (that's what the contracts generally say), though it could be less if the hagwon doesn't have enough classes for you. The lesson planning side of it is usually covered, for the most part, and your extra responsibilities are generally fairly minimal. Checking the homework is usually the prerogative over actually marking it, tests are already written, evaluations will be once per semester, etc. Most of the folks I know with jobs like that go into work about an hour before their classes start and finish up everything they need to do.

In terms of hours for a newb, say what you will about CDI but their schools with Wednesdays off are only 24 teaching hours per week with minimal desk warming, less than thirty hours at work total, outside of intensive periods. That said, it's still CDI with all that that entails.

Thanks, northway. I figured as much. So, essentially the 2-8 is 7 hours if factoring in early arrival prep time? If so, that is the same as what I do (1 hour paid lunch break with free cafeteria food factored). 30 classes per week is a bit much for my tastes. I have to put in 40 hours per week (20 x 40 min classes and office time). I do all of the things that I was curious about in the 2-8 type gig and still have plenty of down time to do whatever. I'm an 8-4 type person, so it works well for me.

A buddy of mine here in Shanghai worked at CDI and he liked it there, other than the management.
