Hi everybody. I'm planning on applying for a job in South Korea towards the end of the year but I do have concerns over my Scottish accent. I've read a lot about Koreans preferring North American English accents and I certainly do not have this.

I would be very grateful if someone could watch the first 30 seconds of this video (I am the first person who appears in the video) and let me know if my accent is too strong, and if I need to try and modify this for a phone interview etc.

Thank You so much.

It's pretty thick to these American ears.

And God help you too, sir, if you ever hear a really strong Scottish accent!

Laughing Yea really.

What do you think of these accents?

Think they've consciously weakened them?

No. Maybe. I dunno.

But I'm pretty sure these accents have not been weakened:

Some of these videos use a combination of English and Scots. To expect anyone not from Scotland to understand it is unreasonable. It seems a lot of you are ignorant regarding the accents and different languages that exist in Scotland.

I find all these videos very amusing. I find a lot of American accents very difficult to understand, ie. Texas accents. A lot of people in Scotland speak very clearly and I'm sure most people could understand what they said.

The problem being many Americans assume all British people speak like Hugh Grant.

OP I am from deepest Ayrshire originally and my accent was quite strong as my parents are weegies and mix that in with Ayrshire and you have a wonderful sound Sad I just slowed right down...the two things you will NEED TO STOP are using "Ah" for "I" and "how" for "why" as well as "stay" when you mean "live" my accent has softened DRAMATICALLY here in Korea and now I think the scottish accent sounds so rough...but I agree west Scotland is waaaay stronger than East Scotland.

All my family and friends in Scotland think I am "posh" now haha and I do have an american and english twang I have got from friends here as scots are very few and far between!

Just slow down and youll be fine!
