|
|
Hello,
I urgently need a bit of help. I've signed a contract (i.e. scanned and emailed to recruiter) but having learnt the recruiter has told a few half-truths am now having serious second thoughts.
If I pull out now and politely inform my recruiter that I can no longer take the job, would there be any risk of it affecting my future chances of getting a job with another school / recruiter (as a result of being blacklisted, etc...)?
Thanks for any insight,
Rich. |

Not in the least. That recruiter probably won't deal with you, but there are dozens more out there just waiting for you to send them your resume.
In fact, if you want to go through a recruiter, I would advice you to contact as many recruiters as possible. A lot (perhaps most) will lie to you. In general, they're an unscrupulous lot. They will work for any school that will pay them a finders fee and they try to get teachers into schools quickly so that they don't lose out to another recruiter. Many of them will keep several applicants on the line in case the school changes it's mind, one backs out, or such. If a better applicant comes along they might give the job to that person. At the end, they'll tell you that the SCHOOL changed it's mind and retracted the offer. Then you're back to step one looking for a new recruiter (or listening to the same guy offer you a different job).
You need to do the same. Contact as many as possible. When a school actually gets you a visa issuance number, THEN you tell the others that you've found a job. |

Until you send off the hard copies there are NO repercussions other than pissing off the recruiter and having to find a new one.

| You should know, however, that pulling out has approximately a 9% failure rate. Most doctors don't recommend it. |

| Thanks. I assumed that the electronic copy wouldn't carry any legal weight but reassurance is always a positive. I suppose I'm starting from square one again then! |

| Feel like naming and shaming the particular recruiter? Might help someone else out in the future. |
