Looks like they might be hanging on to Dokdo a bit longer.

Your title is wrong. South Korea is the 2nd biggest importer of weapons, not buyer. There is a difference. I have a hunch Russia is still #2, but it buys nearly all its weapons domestically.

I took my title from the article's.

"Asian states are world's largest arms buyers"

But yes you are correct, they are the second largest importer of weapons

Not that I want to get into that debate, but still gotta point out that Japan spends about double what SK does on military expenditures...

Don't forget that a large part of the total SK military expenditures is shouldered/supported by the U.S though...

Every weapon Korea produces is crap. Daewoo Industries makes a TON of weapons, nobody buys it because it is garbage.

I wish asians had some innovations, but the M16 rifle developed 60 years ago is better than any weapon any asian could event, EVER. So is the lee enfeild, AK-47, SKS, etc.....

Copying stuff = asian success. Inventing stuff = asian failure.

Not sure if I agree with your last sentence but after using the K-2, I'm convinced Korea should go back to the M16 or adopt the AK-101 if it needs to keep the 5.56. I was astounded by how much it jammed during training despite regular maintennance.

I can't say that Korean weapons are crap but they don't go through the same process that American-made weapons do. There's a lot less competition as the military almost always adopts a Korean manufactured weapon system by default. They like to talk up a lot of Korean weapon systems as the best in the world but none of them have been tested in combat. But luckily a lot of our stuff is also imported from more proven companies or augmented by western technology.

They made a big deal out of the K-11 when it came out because it was the first operational OICW type weapon, which is something the Americans "failed" at. But apparently it's chock full of problems.

Hey Fermentation,

That wasn't a knock at the language...your usage was perfect.

It was an inside joke with Billybrobby(Bbr)...notoriously funny poster here on Dave's...doesn't post much anymore...if at all.
He ran a thread on Chock full vs Chalk full...as a troll.
It didn't get much traction...but your post jogged my memory on that.
Cheers Wink

Ohhh. So I was right! My English skills have been going down hill so I thought I was wrong, but google tells me I was.
