Weirdly I find smiths albums in bars all over Seoul, I think you'll be surprised.

Yeah, I could see that song being popular here.

I've seen one bar where they played a Smiths song here. Was completely empty and closed after a month. But who knows, maybe there's a following.

Actually i heard the Stone Roses are going to play the Jisan Rock Festival this summer.

The strange thing is that both Radiohead and The Stone Roses are scheduled to play at Fuji Rocks on the same weekend that the Jisan Festival is advertising they will play at the Korean festival.

Not really that strange as they are both 3 day festivals and its not that hard to play a 2 hour set in Korea on Friday and then fly to Japan and play another 2 hour set on Saturday/Sunday or the other way around. On new years in England some DJ`s / bands play like 3 or 4 venues or cities on the same night, finish their set and drive to the next city, quite simple really.

Anybody get their Morrissey tickets yet?
I have been researching and from what I read, he has been putting on good shows the last few years. The band is good.
However, they have cancelled some shows and that makes me nervous for the Seoul show. Seoul is the last show in Asia and its four days after the previous show in Japan.
Also I have been reading funny comments from the concert goers. College age kids complaining about too many "dinosaurs" at the shows. To those stupid kids I say: Morrissey is a dinosaur himself. And those dinosaurs were listening to the Smiths before you were even born. So why don't you and your generation go and produce any music even remotely worth listening too.

I've seen him 5 or 6 times and the crowd is usually full of original Smiths fans. You have to remember that Moz couldn't sell out a 1500 people venue in London 10 years ago and only over the past 5 years has it become fashionable to like The Smiths again. He usually plays 4 or 5 Smiths tracks during his set. Sadly I won't be in Seoul when he plays.

I thought he'd always had a very solid, exceptionally loyal fanbase?

There was a time when he was accused of being a racist by the NME based on some flag waving and a few song titles. It was all bullshit. Anyway, he wasn't but at the same time he wasn't pulling up any trees in 2000/2001.

Got my ticket just now. I missed Duran Duran, so the Moz more than makes up for it.

I've seen him 4 times before and it's always a classy show.
The Smiths selections are always worth it.

The AX venue is pretty small (for a theater-type of venue) so all seats should be good. When I saw Mew there, everyone was pretty much standing around on the floor level. I don't think there were any actual seats except for the balcony.

I hope security is pretty lax here. We should be able to get pretty close.

And the Koreans who show up will probably be unfamiliar with his work; they just tend to show up whenever foreign acts (esp. British/European) come through.

I remember meeting a lady at the Mew concert who brought her middle school kid all the way from Busan simply cos she'd heard them on the radio a few weeks earlier.

I also remember a couple of years ago when I mentioned the Smiths to the (Korean) owner of Commune in Daegu. He seemed incredulous that I liked them despite the fact that 30-something English major introverts like me have kept the Mozzer in Gucci for years.

Still not happy about the prices; nearly double what I paid to see Moz in the USA.

And as far as the Stone Roses/Radiohead thing at Jisan:

Nearly all of the non-Korean acts are drawn directly from the Fuji Rock Fest. Expect more names to be added as the event approaches. It's really a gamble as to who will be coaxed over to Korea. Artists come to Asia for the Japanese fests and they (sometimes) stay for Jisan.

They are sister festivals so it's not unusual really, google Leeds/Reading fest and you'll see the precedent.

I'm a huge Morrissey fan seen him dozens of times and have actually interviewed him before. He played Glastonbury festival last year and was the act before U2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CPrEMQVfUs
