|
|
To whom it concerns:
October 2010: I begin working on an E2 Visa at a school in Anyang.
April 2011: I am dismissed from the school in Anyang, am granted a LOR, and am permitted to transfer my visa to a school in Ulsan. I begin working at the school on April 27.
December 24, 2011: I am dismissed from the Ulsan school for financial reasons. I am given until Feb 12, 2012 on the job, receive a LOR, and begin working at a hogwan in the Seoul area on Feb 25, 2012. I take a trip to Immigration, am permitted to begin working at the new school, and am told I have to obtain a new CRC and diploma with apostille by May 27, 2012.
May 15, 2012: I have not received either document as of yet, but am confident that the diploma w/apostille will arrive by the 27th if not the CRC. I would like to get my visa extended past the 27th and am unsure as to what I should do and/or say to Immigration.
Please let me know how I should deal with Immigration. Should my present employer accompany me to Immigration? |

Show proof that the documents have indeed been applied for in a timely fashion. (money order receipt for the CRC application, etc)
If your receipts are dated from about 80 days ago Kimmi will give you a short extension while you are waiting for them.
If your receipt is dated for last week then your odds are slim.

Tom:
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. As for showing proof: I submitted a credit card payment form that was available on the FBI website. ( Their is no date on this form. ) I don't know if this will be of aid, but I did make a photocopy of the fingerprints that were taken by the police in early March. ( Their is a date on this and I am hoping that this is acceptable to Immigration. )
Regarding my diploma with apostille. I was told that I had to obtain two diplomas and I have had my father send $25 to my University and $10 x 2 to The Secretary of State in the state that I attended University in. Should I ask my father to send photocopies of these payments in the event that my diploma and apostille don't arrive by the end of the month?
How long of an extension should I request? Do you think Immigration would be more lenient given that I'm the only foreign teacher at my school?
One last thing: My boss keeps talking about The Immigration Office and The Education Office. I will have two diplomas with apostille and will be able to give one to The Immigration Office and one to The Education Office, but I only requested one CRC. Will a copy made in The Immigration Office by an Immigration official be acceptable to The local Education authority?
Thank You again. |

A credit card statement to go with the payment will prove the payment date for the CRC.
Yes, the MOE will accept a KIMMI made copy (300won per page) of the CRC for people on an E2 who have been resident since before the new law came into effect.
The length of time is at the discretion of the officer at Kimmi. You don't ask for a specific length of time (other than one year for a regular extension) unless they ask you how long. You will probably get another 90 days but it is unlikely that they will do it longer or for a 3rd time.
Photocopies or scans of the payments made for the degree would also be a good idea as a just in case measure. It shows effort and good faith on your part and kimmi is likely to be lenient. They are not looking to throw qualified people out of the country - just ensure that the people who are here are properly here.

Tom:
I was mistaken in saying that their is no date on the Credit Card Payment Form. Their is a date, but this date is the date of submission. The Credit Card isn't billed until The FBI gets around to it. I am only going to have a copy of the fingerprints and copy of Credit Card payment form to submit.
I am going to get the photocopies of payments made for diploma and apostille services. Should I wait until I have all of this stuff ( Early next week ) before going to Immigration? I have until the 27th of May and am wondering if a trip before a second trip would be advisable?
Employer: I am worried that he is getting cold feet. Do I simply go to Immigration with a new employer and apply for a visa extension? ( This isn't likely, but I'm in a real bind if I'm not working. ) |
