|
|
As the thread says, in resource manager svchost.exe(LocalserviceAndnoimpersonation) is taing up 50% of my cpu usage.
I read that you can disable it but if you disable every service it provides it can cause issues. I did in fact do this and whilst my cpu usage dropped to like 5% - I couldn't use the internet and some other issues. So I restored my system again and we're back to no problemo - other than svchost is using 50% of my cpu..
can anyone write me instructions on how to go into svchost and de-activate / unable services I do not need / make lower priority in order to give my cpu a break...?
Cheers. |

Yeah I tried those.
It's not the virus and the other link - simply deactivating windows Auto update didn't do anything.
I need to know which othe rnon essential services I can stop or set to low priority and how to do it. |

First off, I would do the following:
1. Scan with an up-to-date antivirus. If you don't have a good one (or a legal one) get Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials and full scan.
2. Download and run Malwarebytes (at least once a month in quick scan). Run a full scan like once every 3 to 6 months minimum.
3. Search Google on "How to speed up windows 7" and follow the directions as to what services you can shut down.

I should also add that I have found it useful to download and use the registry cleaner that is a part of Piriform CCleaner. It is a free program, and is very useful when you install it and run it from right-clicking the Recycle Bin.
I'd clean your registry out with this program, too.
Lastly, go through and look at all installed programs on your computer using add/remove and remove whatever is not necessary, or you feel comfortable getting rid of. Run the registry cleaner again after doing so. |

Yeah already run ccleaner et al.
Anywhooo
FIXED!!!
By crikey it WAS windows updater!
Serched for 'services' in the windows browser and entered the programme, scrolled down the list of services and disabled windows updater.
Waddya know, my cpu usage right now whilst typing this is a tiny 6%..!!!!!!

Oh also, for anyone interested in the topic -
As well as disabling WAU, I follwed the link that swampfox posted - cheers for that mate
I ALSO went in services and disabled 'windows search.'
It basically uses up pc resources by constantly indexing files etc. But you never really use it if you're like me and use your laptop for movies, downloading, internet, email, skype and not much else.
My memory usage went from just over 1gb to now 700mb of my 2gb onboard memory. Again, cpu usage is around 6% - 9% still.
Man, awesome. My cpu fan was blowing a firgging hurricane and now it's barely audible! So think of all the wear those two 'services' were doing to my motherboard.
The rest of the 'speed up W7' advice at the link only makes literally 1% differences to memory and cpu, things like getting rid of transparency and having a basic theme, but disabling 'windows update' and 'windows search' - yeah well worth it. You can still enable windows update once a month and then get the updates and switch it off again.
No doubt the pc makers / windows designers KNOW how recourse intensive these functions are (wau and windows search) yet don't let you know how basicaly useless it is to have them running all the time so you believe the hype about new tech and think your laptop is slow coz the tech is out of date and run out and buy a new one...
Ha well, I've had my trusty hp dv6500 with intel core 2 duo, 250gb hd and 2 gb of ram for almost 3 years now and it was an 1 yr old ex display model when I bought it - and it still runs just fine and I'll not be swapping it for at least another cpl yrs - as long as it doesn't physically break... |
