I heard that most people that have had a child with a Korean has had an unusual amount of boys. I remember reading that on here.
I just found out I'm having a girl, so very excited about that!

If anything, I have heard the opposite. In fact, a very smart friend (with a PhD) was telling me about a theory in which too much stress in a given society can lead to more girls being born. Anyways, 9 out of 15 kids who resulted from foreign guy/Korean lady couple friends of mine, have been girls.

First of all congratulations! I would think that Koreans who have a non-Korean partner have the same percentage of girls to boys as the rest of the world. Of course their are lots of different factors that might affect this. Speaking what Konglishman said, I've read news stories as well that suggest if times are difficult that people in a society has a whole tend to have a slightly higher percentage of girls born.

I have a son, and nine of the ten Korean-foreign couples I know have sons as well. In fact, three of those couples have two sons.

In my small community of international marriages, the following distribution of children exists.

14 girls
11 boys

Some couples have two boys, some have two girls, some have two girls and one boy, some have one of each. There is no consistency other than that it seems to be a 50% probability of one or the other. If I look to my wider circle of acquaintances, it seems to be the same.

Among our mixed couples friends...

So with this tiny sample (including our family): 10 Girls, 8 Boys


I have no idea if this means anything as far as the proportion of boys or girls for mixed couples!

The gender of the baby is determined by the male's half of the genes so unless your a Korean guy it doesn't matter where you live.

In the 80s and 90s, Koreans would tend to give girls an abortion, for no reason other than the fetus was a girl. They may still do that today.

There is a demographic skew towards boys in Korea, especially among those now in their 20s.

I, on the other hand, have heard that eslcafe board discussions have a direct influence on the boys/girls birth ratio in Korea.
