				| Does anyone know of a way to find out if a certain prescription medication is available in Korea. When I there last time, my doctor gave me plenty of pills, but a potential employer asked me about it being available in country, just in case. |

type in the generic name of whatever the medicine in, if you see it come up, it's probably available, it'll use list the dosage amounts so you can check if it's what you need. Sometimes those don't match so you might have to take 2 or 3 of something where you might get it in a larger pill back home. |

One close to the doctor who prescribes it..

seriously?

there are like 8 billion of them in seoul alone, and there are none that are really any better than the rest. |

Wow, nice tone. Sorry for asking. Geez. Just thought some pharmacies would only stock brand names and others mor elikely to stock generic / rx like in most countries.

Had no idea that everyone of the 8 BILLION of them in Seoul were exactly the same!

I'll tell my friend whom needs asthma inhalers just that. 'They're all the same' and hope you're right then. |

				| Go to a university hospital for the doctor's visit, and use the hospital's own pharmacy. |

Pharmacies and doctors in Korea work together. The doctor knows what brands the local pharmacies stock. So if the doctor won't prescribe that particular brand it means none of the local pharmacies have it in stock. You should pretty much always go to a pharmacy near the doctor who gave you the prescription because if you don't, its very likely whatever pharmacy you go to won't have what he prescribed (or at least not 100% match). They might carry other brands of the same stuff.

If for some reason you absolutely must have a very specific brand of something, ask the doctor to prescribe it and any pharmacy can order it and get it in in a day or two. |

he never said they were all the same and there's nothing wrong with the tone -

your original question lacked specifics so maybe if you want to know something specific, such as about generic vs brands, ask it first; people can't read your mind. |

Seemingly basic yet very good advice.

Some doctors in really nice offices (Gangnam area, for example) don't know info about commonly prescribed meds in their field. |

When I first started on a regimen of a number of prescription meds, I went to 2 pharmacies in my neighborhood and was told that they didn't stock those meds. At the 3rd pharmacy, the pharmacist told me he had been called by the other pharmacies to alert him of my quest. He told me he would special order everything and keep it in stock while I remained in the neighborhood. "Please come back tomorrow".

My next time in Korea, I just went to the first pharmacy that I encountered out of the front gate of the hospital. No questions. They had everything in stock. It was very crowded, but not that long of a wait. They had the requisite staff to handle the demand, as well as the inventory.

I would have continued to use the previous pharmacy, as the pharmacist was not busy and very helpful with any other questions I had even if they weren't drug related. But it was neither close to the hospital nor my new quarters. |

Not all hospitals allow their pharmacies to be used for outpatient purposes. I miss the days when you could just go into the pharmacy and tell them what you needed without having to see a doctor.

I'm not a doctor, but I recognize a case of gout when I am stricken (and yes, like pregnancy, I know what causes that). |

				| So are there doctors / pharmacies that stock and will offer you generics rather than brand names? |
