Every connection I've used in Korea, for the most part, has been quite a bit slower this month. It seems like the internet quality in this country has gradually worsened in recent years. Anyone else noticed this.
Skype also has been bad for a few months now. Very annoying.
Is Korea suffering from lack of bandwidth? Even Korean sites are loading slower these days -- not just international ones. |

After Microsoft acquired Skype, they proceeded to build a centralized system for it (http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/05/skype-replaces-p2p-supernodes-with-linux-boxes-hosted-by-microsoft/) to prevent total and uncontrollable system failure like in the past; in contrast to the decentralized structure Skype used to be. This way they have more control over the system and can do a better job of keeping hackers out (http://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/skype-leaking-user-ip-addresses-tcp-ports/11733).
It has been a little sluggish for me about three months ago but now it's fine. |
