| Europe and SEA both have the advantage of easy overland travel to varied places in close proximity to one another. One plane ticket gets you five countries without much trouble. In Korea's case, one plane ticket is getting you to Korea and back and that's about it. I ended up in Laos, Singapore, and Vietnam almost by accident via Bangkok; the same is unlikely to happen in the case of Korea. |
most plane tickets from europe or north america to SE asia need you to stop over and change planes in tokyo, incheon, bejing, mumbai or new dehli. many of these airlines allow for you to layover for a few days or even longer. i ALWAYS take advantage of a free layover to add another country to my Itinerary. without this, i never would have seen tokyo, hong kong, or india. next time you fly to thailand, why not have a few days layover in hong kokng or tokyo? it's like a free ticket.
to adzeal, korea isn't impressive or interesting to US because we live here. we need to get AWAY from it's craziness. for people that don't live here, it's a new interesting place to discover. even if korea doesn't have one of the top sites in the world, they've got a culture and scenery that is worth checking out once at least, even if only on a layover on your way to china or SE asia. dontya think?
and i agree with sultan... there are lots of beautiful mountains, coastline, islands and temples here. the places they promote to see aren't the really great places to go. it's the places that aren't listed in LP or overun with people that are worth seeing. preferably when most koreans are busy in school or at work.LOL |
Yes I will accept that, if it was a layover I could spend a few days in Korea and would probably enjoy it. I have never not enjoyed any place I have been and I have been to over 25 countries. Yes I find it interesting to wander around a new place, experience new things etc.. But I just dont think most people, including myself, if they had a CHOICE of how to spend their money would choose to come here over other places.
Of those countries I have visited I would say the two I would enjoy the least if I had to spend several weeks somewhere would be Belgium and Korea.
Yes im here to work and I don`t hate living here, I don`t love it either though. Would I ever come back as a tourist once I have finished working here? No..
Would I recommend it to my friends and family as a place to visit ? No |

Have you been to Bruges and Ghent? They are beautiful cities. And then there's the chocolate and the beer. |

Yes i`ve been to Bruges and thought it was nice, I didn`t have a bad time in Belgium I just dont think I would like to spend a long time there in comparison with other European countries, especially in Brussels. |

Fairly sure that most countries would prefer tourists that actually have money to burn then your typical backpacker. |
In fact a lot of Euro pundits blame Spain's over investing in tourism infrastructure at the expense of engineering and other sectors to be one of the main reasons for it's financial troubles. When the toursits have less dough to throw around or when cheaper countries appear (Croatia, Bulgaria) and open up to tourism at cheaper rates - what else do you have to fall back on? For Korea to invest too much on tourism other than for it's well established and traditional clientel - ie Japanese and Chinese luxury good / services tourists - would be a waste of money. |

| Many Japanese and Chinese tourists come for 1-2 days just for shopping. They shop in Myeong Dong and Lottemart at Seoul Station. If you ever shop there on a weekend it can be a bizarre experience. In fact, that Lottemart has a package delivery service in the front part of the store. |
