I've had more problems with lost luggage and being stranded due to missed connections flying Delta than with any other airline. I'm not picky about airlines, I'll pretty much always take whatever's cheapest, but if you can't get me and my stuff to my destination it's completely unacceptable. Delta is the only airline that I will never fly again.

Delta was the airline Rodney Dangerfield was talking about when he said "Talk about a frequent flyer, the airlines know me so well that they lose my luggage in advance".

I flew Delta from Toronto>Detroit>Incheon.

It was the first time I'd flown on a North American airline and I have no complaints. It certainly wouldn't rate as the friendliest service I've ever received in the air, but it wasn't the worst either. Honestly, it seemed to be in line with the kind of service I received at most restaurants and bars during my brief stint in North America (granted, a very small portion of the continent).

The food was fine, the beer was free, the in-flight entertainment was good, the seat was comfortable enough, my baggage was not lost, the plane didn't fall out of the sky and it was cheap. That's pretty much all I expect from airlines these days. Friendly attendants are just a bonus really...I mean how many times to you actually need to interact with them? If they bring the food and drinks, take away the leftovers and smile when I get on and get off the plane they've pretty much fulfilled their job description in my opinion.

My wife and I have used Delta 3 times and had no problem. Everything goes like it's supposed to.

The only problem we've had on the Korean Air(Delta Flight) was it was hot in the cabin. Every person that wasn't Asian on the plane was fanning themselves. The newer Korean Air planes don't have the individual air thingys. We, and a few others asked if they could turn the temp down. It's easier to cover up and get warmer than it is to get cooler. After a few hours it didn't cool off so we asked again. They said, "But the temperature is 78F, and that man (an older Korean dude who was asleep) has two blankets. Can I bring you a cup of ice?"

Then on a trip to Guam with Korean Air, we were the only people not Asian on the plane, kids were running around crazy the whole 4 hours. One kid sat in the jumper set grabbed the handle on the emergency exit and decided to pull. We were right there stopped him. We told the stewardess and she apologized but the kid just kept running around and messing with stuff.

I've been doing some snooping around the past couple of hours and it seems that Delta's ratings have really improved in the past year. They actually came out ahead of United (no surprise), American, US Airways and Continental.

As to having little interaction with the flight attendants yes I agree but on a 13 and a half hour flight I'll admit it is nice to have a bit of eye candy to admire.

Delta bumped me to first class once and business class three times in the last two years (Transatlantic).

It helped that I was the first one to arrive and really nice to the ticket counter lady. Once I was sick and she was so good about helping me out - that was my first class ride. What a great flight.

Of course, there have been some bad ones too. Back in the 1990's. Nothing terrible though. I did notice the poor adjoshi behind me couldn't communicate beer and peanuts to the stewardess, but it was too hard to get him a translation from super-biatch sitting in the middle row busy playing her gameboy.

Very Happy

Delta is far and away the best N.American carrier imo.

I wouldnt fly United or Air Canada again if you paid me to get the plane, they are really that terrible.

However, with that said, I would book whatever airline (other than those two) that keeps me away from a few airports in the US. 1. DC Dulles is the worst airport in the US, if i can help it, I wont fly out of or connect there. Also, both SF and Chicago are terrible places if you are entering the US, not so bad on connections or exiting though.

I typically fly Delta when going home, connecting through Detroit (which is a fantastic airport, btw). I've never had issues and I agree that it's probably the best North American airline. Still, it's miles behind Asian carriers like Korean Air.

Didn't read the thread...

But, I flew Detroit to Seoul in February and I thought the flight was great. I took a full suitcase and a full snowboard bag and paid no baggage charges. The food was decent and the service was fine (no handjobs offered, just normal human interaction, the way I like it). It had good in-flight entertainment.

As others have mentioned Delta flights across the pond are usually on sister Asian airlines. Have you checked American Airlines for flights from Seoul. I have no idea if that is a regular destination for them, but upon checking for flights back home and back to Shanghai they have the cheapest rates and don't charge extra baggage fees.

You're essentially flying Korean or China Air, so how can it be that horrible? I flew Delta to Bangkok and it was like taking China Air. It was a China Air airplane, China Air stewardesses, whats the difference? If you're carrying more than one large bag that has to go into the luggage then yeah maybe look for another flight, assuming that they don't charge you $100 also. I was always able to put a fairly large bag in the overhead storage. They tend to be not real strict on the sizing that they are supposed to allow.

If you flew Delta to Bangkok and it was a China Air airplane and China Air stewardesses then you didn't fly Delta, you flew Delta operated by China Air. There is a major difference.

When Delta flies to Korea doesn't it use the Skyteam alliance with Korean Air? If so then Korean Air operates the Delta plane just like China air operates the Delta plane to Bangkok.

Yes it is part of the alliance but there are huge differences. Are you telling me you get the same flight attendants on a DELTA flight that you get on a China Air flight? No. There is a reason why one plane says Delta on it and another says China Air on it.

Well (fortunately) I'm heading back to the States and I didn't have much of a say on who I could fly with, my school just picked the cheapest flight they could find....it just so happened to be a Delta flight.

I flew Delta to Korea with my son (he was 5 at the time) and it was fine.

Not as good as Korean Air, JAL or Asianana but thats to be expected when comparing North American carriers with asian ones.

Our friends (mixed couple) fly Delta each year on their trip from Canada to Korea and they have no major problems with that carrier.

We flew Northwest a few years abck (before Delta bought it), American Airlines a few times and that was fine too for the long haul to asia.

We avoid Air Canada like the plague.

As for baggage allowance, the two free checked bag thing is dying out faster than an ice cube melts on a hot sidewalk in July heat. Most North American carriers made or are making to move to one free checked bag instead of 2 for economy/coach passengers.

Asian carriers are still at 2 bags.

Air Canada is well on its way to one bag on most of its flights.

By the way, Delta charges 75USD for an extra bag....not 100USD.....

At the end of the day, price can be a big deciding factor too and Delta does offer some of the better priced tickets between Asia and North America.

Byrddogs, the 2 bag allowance on AA is for flights between China/Japan and the US.

Oddly enough, from other asian destinations it is sometimes one free checked bag only!

Or it is a code-share and then it can be a Delta plane with a mixed crew or vice-versa....
