|
|
I went for a hike today, and while on the bus to the mountain, I noticed that although it was quite hot (mid 20s) and very sunny, many of the ajummas weren't wearing visors. As the bus went through town, I noticed that a lot of the ajummas on the street also weren't wearing visors. A rough estimate would be only about a third of the ajummas I saw had them on.
I've lived in Korea for 4 years now, and when I first got here, it seemed like every ajumma I saw was wearing one of those ridiculous hats, so I'm wondering if today was just a fluke, or are they starting to wake up and realize just how stupid those things look? |

My guess is that it's still May. June will be a different story. It's kind of like the reason the heaters are all on in late February or early March even though it's a warm day. "To everything there is a season" seems to be taken literally here. |

Ever wear sunglasses on a sunny day there during winter? Sunglasses apparently aren't used for the same reason there, as I was told on several occasions that you shouldn't wear them in winter.
As far as those visors go, I've noticed a few recently here in Shanghai (mostly on people riding scooters, which makes some sense). |

I haven't seen as many of the Donald Duck style face masks either. |

The word must have reached ajummas - only a sith deals in absolutes!
