I want to contribute but I'm kind of toasted right now. I hate Jeter and think he's mostly overrated as a SS. However, I can't help but remember 'the flip,' which was remarkably awesome. Have that one bookmarked, control + F "flip" if you can't find it. Third down on the left as I'm seeing it.

Other greats to make it even harder to decide:
Paul Molitor. Robin Yount. Tony Gwynn. Kirby Puckett. Tim Raines. Harold Baines. Ryne Sandberg (agree with Alomar though) Frank Thomas (though no one touches Pujols). Joe Mauer (though still early in his career). |

Omar Vizquel was the best FIELDING SS I've ever seen. Glad to have seen him playing for the Tribe for so many years. He was awesome! |

Isn't Vizquel still playing? Did you ever see Ozzie Smith?
Jim Edmonds may be the best outfielder I have ever seen. |

Yeah, I remember that too sloth, 1985, was in high school then, the Cards were based on speed and defense and Jack Clark. Coleman got on base a lot and stole so many that Herr could single him in. Was a good team. Herzog was brilliant too. Good pitching, lot of switch hitters. The OZ. Remember his famous Home Run? When he hit just one or two a year on average I guess. Hard to beat. We're not talking best defense, sure, just mentioned a player or two. Still hard to decide who is the best for each slot. Only certainties are Pujols, Bonds, and A Rod, I guess. And Alomar. Think he was the best too. Maybe the best 2B guy ever. Schmidt or Brett? I'd go with Schmidt. Though leaving out Brett feels wrong, he hit freaking 390 one year. One of the best players ever. And how can Tony Gwynn not be included? Feels wrong to not include guys who got in the hall on first chance. I also think Joe Mauer deserves a shout though he still has a few years to go. Saw him on the TV two years ago and knew he was special. I will say I believe Pujols may be the best player ever. Or Babe Ruth, who changed the damn game back when a lot of lousy players got into the league somehow. Pujols is the modern version of the Babe. For pitching, has no one mentioned Nolan Ryan, Steve Carlton, or Roy Halladay? Tough calls all over the place. Some were dominant in the late 70s sure, but also well into the 80s and later. All those guys are like Koufax when he owned the field.
I love baseball, as you might have guessed. |

Having watched Bryce Harper a couple times now, he's easily the most all-around explosive player I've ever seen, though I was too young to really appreciate A-Rod's very early years. |

here's a list of #1 draft picks since 1965. with the exceptions of arod, griffey, chipper jones, harold baines, strawberry, josh hamilton, and joe mauer, most of them flopped. |
Of those still in the game, Adrian Gonzalez, Stephen Strasburg, Justin Upton, and David Price are all great players.
Piazza was drafted after the fiftieth round; today he would go undrafted, as the draft ends at the fiftieth round.
Kent was good, but Alomar was a much better defender and had a longer peak. I think Kent is a Hall of Famer, but I think Alomar was a bit better. |

C- Pudge
1B- Pujols (Mattingly is close though)
2B- Robby Alomar
3B- George Brett
SS- Ozzie Smith
LF- Rickey Henderson. Henderson edges Bonds by a World Series.
CF- Griffey, Jr.
RF- Really close call between Ichiro and Tony Gwynn. I think Ichiro is slightly overrated, but he does have a cannon of an arm and its not like there's much difference in power between the two. I think Gwynn is the better pure hitter though.
RP- I know its waayyyy too small a body of work, but I have a feeling that Justin Verlander might just end up topping the list. For body of work, you have to go with Ryan, for a period of consistent dominance you have to go with Pedro Martinez, but for someone who might end up with a long body of work AND consistent dominance, it might just end up being Verlander.
LP- Randy Johnson.
CL- I know the numbers say otherwise, and that Rivera is lights out in the postseason, but I blowing game 7 of the World Series and then the 2004 Red Sox ones leave a stain. So, I have to go with Eckersely. I know he gave up the homer to Gibby, but I that was a Game 1.
Edit- I know some people consider the DH blasphemy, but if one must be chosen, it has to be Edgar Martinez.
