For you boxing fans and/or people wanting something to do on Buddah's birthday, there's a boxing event that day in Seoul.

Donghyuk Kim is defending his Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation title for the first time against Thai challenger Jomthong Chuwatana. For those who don't know, Donghyuk Kim is a promising prospect who's only loss came from a decision against Jihoon Kim. Jihoon Kim is the most successful male Korean boxer right now but Donghyuk (in his fourth fight no less) gave him a tough fight. This fight is at 130lb.

The co main event is Kim Minwook's first OPBF run against Filipino champion Romeo Jakosalem. I'm especially excited for this fight because to my knowledge, this is the farthest anyone from my gym has every gotten. I've sparred Minwook and this dude has speed and power. He's knocked me down more times than I'd like to admit with body shots. Shit, if he wanted to, he could knock me out cold. Coach has also been polishing up his right hand so it'll nice to see how it comes into play. Minwook's also been sparring the aforementioned Jihoon Kim. Judging by his record, Jakosalem doesn't seem to have consistent power but he does have more experience than Minwook. I'm excited for this fight as much as I'm excited for Bradley vs Pacquiao.

There are also four fights pitting local fighters against eachother on the undercard.

The event is going to held at KBS Sports World Gym 1 (스포츠월드 제1체육관) neat Balsan Station exit 5 (line 5). The event starts at 3pm and the main event start at 5pm. It will also be aired live on SBS ESPN.

For tickets, http://cafe.daum.net/goboxing/ but it says you have to call 02-2294-3772 to buy tickets. Might wanna get somebody who knows Korean for this. The tickets are 20,000won a piece.

Just found out about this but Kim Jihoon will be facing undefeated Alisher Rahimov this Friday in ESPN's Friday Night fights. From what I can tell, it won't be aired in Korea.

Really? I find it surprising that the fight won't be aired in South Korea. Is this a big sport here?

KBSN Sports went from showing big fights overseas, to reruns of great fighters and live broadcasts of Korean fighters, to not showing boxing at all. At least that's what I can tell from searching the internet. None of the stations are showing it it seems like.

I just heard from a reliable source that the show may be in jeopardy.
Have you heard anything?

The OBPF title matches? Haven't heard anything from my gym at least. Went today and Minwook's still training hard and my trainer was pushing him. If they knew I think they might've been talking about it. I got my ticket yesterday so it better not be in trouble.

What did you hear?

A manager told me that due to infighting at the KBC, all matches in June are cancelled. The May 28th show may also be cancelled. I really hope not, especially for the visiting fighters' sake.
If the fight's are on, I'll be there. Come over and say hi.

They could always just take the fights outside and fight like men. They don't need anyone's blessing. The winner wins and the loser looses. It's a gentleman's sport after all.

Yeah, they trained for a 12 round OPBF title fight and accompanying world ranking, and a substantial payday, but... screw it. They should fight in the parking lot, and the winner gets to pay blood money to the loser! Laughing

Great day at the fights!
Undercard was somewhat lackluster, but the two OPBF title fights more than made up for it.
fermentation, I can't believe that Kim Min-Wook knocked out Jakosalem! I didn't want to say it before (because he's your teammate) but I thought that Jako would make Min-Wook look like an idiot before finishing him. Wow.
