| I'm finished my contract at my school and going to the US in August but will be coming back in September, the little one is due mid December what are my chances of getting a job? And whats the story about maternity leave any info would be much appreciated. Thanks |

I don't think anyone would hire you, and it is not safe to fly in your third trimester of pregnancy. The airline may not allow it. Maternity leave would not be given after 3 months of employment. |

I don't think anyone would hire you, and it is not safe to fly in your third trimester of pregnancy. The airline may not allow it. Maternity leave would not be given after 3 months of employment. |
I agree here- I seriously doubt anyone would hire you- and if you conceal the fact that you are expecting, your chances of being fired are really high. |

If you have a paper from the doctor you can usually fly up to 7-8th month of pregnancy, rules vary according to the airline. |

| One of our directors started teaching part-time the first of this year, but she's now looking for a replacement for herself, as she found out a few weeks ago that she was expecting. I know our school tends to have stricter standards than most, but if a Korean owner/director doesn't want to be in the classroom late in a pregnancy, I'm not sure you'll find one eager to hire a foreigner who's visibly pregnant. |

| Ok so looking at all the replies I figure it might be better to stay at my current job try and get my contract extended for) two months more( hopefully at 6 1/2 mths I can still try and hide it, and then leave and come back on a visitors visa. That way I'll get a couple of extra mths pay and a bit of time off. Thanks for all the imput made me open my eyes! |

| Korean doctors are good. Met a really good young Korean doctor who was nice when i had my medical. |

no, generally speaking korean doctors are NOT good...........there may be a few but many of their ideas on many things are %^%$&^%^& up.....................level of health care in the west is much more sound and trustworthy to me anyways..................... |

| flutieflakes: Have you ever BEEN to a Korean doctor? Most of them are pretty good. (Not speaking English DOES NOT mean that the person is a bad doctor!!!!) Of course there are the not-so-good, but you get them wherever you are! I've had excellent care here and wouldn't hesitate to have something major done here. Granted, Koreans have some odd ideas about new mothers, but I think that has a lot to do with conditions 20-30 years ago. |

It sounds like you are planning on having baby in Korea? I can't imagine doing that. Having all the nurses jabbering in Korean all around you and all you can make out is"waygugin.......waygugin.......waygugin......."
'Course I don't know what your level of Korean is.
My point: when it comes time to push baby out, you really want to be in an environment where you feel as comfortable as possible. If I were a woman, I would be pretty loathe to give birth in an environment where communication was at all an issue, or where I felt at all like I was viewed as a medical curiosity. (Not that the Korean urses will think that, but you might feel like they think that. And, they just might think that).
My wife got pregnant while we were in korea. We just KNEW that our baby wasn't going to be born there. Frankly, we just thought it would be scary.

In my experience, the dr CAN speak English if she wants to, even the nurses know a little bit. And if I compare the care that is given throughout pregnancy in Korea, it seems very similar to Belgium of the US, except that they don't give much advice on vitamins, foods not to eat etc. At least I see the dr. a lot more regularly than my friend in the UK who only has complaints about the medical care there!
Seems there's several pregnant women on Dave's these days, maybe we should have a Pregnant Ladies Lunch  |

| I'm going to a doctor right now who is really great she's Korean I think, but has 100% perfect english. As for work I'm not going to work here after October I'll stay in Korea as thats where my fella is but will be here as a tourist, until Jan when I can go back to work, fingures crossed it'll all work out, right now I'm so worried bout stuff I can't think straight so the easiest option of stayin in my job for a couple of mths extra seems the best. We'll see..... |
