ahh I used to drink Chechvar back home and got pretty excited when I saw it as, it's original name, Budvar here. I was surprised with the slim but not terrible beer selection at Emart I had prepared myself for the worst but just knowing I can get Stella or a great Pillsner makes the local bearable as a day to day.
I think the nicest beer related surprise I had was finding the Big Rock Brewery pub in Gangnam. I only went there once but even in Canada Warthog was near impossible to find, knowing I can get a pint here in Korea is beyond all expectations.
Here's to beers!!! |

| Question. I find Qingdao large bottles for 2500 in a Chinese grocer, but he has no small bottles. I find small bottles at Home Plus for 2500 won. Where can you find the small bottles at a good price? I mean shouldn't they be like 2000 won? |
Sometimes the cans go on sale cheap, but it is annoying when you can find some Chinese shops that sell the big bottles for 2,000 won and E-mart is selling the 350ml bottles for the same price (although I recently saw it for 2,500). |

| E-mart is great. There are 500mL cans of this German stuff 5.0 that I like (3 different varieties). They used to sell something called Damburger which was also nice. I think they are between 1350 and 1550 a can which puts them lower than Hite or Cass and about the same as Hite dry in price. |
I haven't been brave enough to try the 5.0 stuff. It just looks too cheap. I've tried Oettinger. That's a worthy beer for cheap and as it's German it adheres to the German purity law and won't give you a nasty hangover. Gotta love the Germans.
Have you tried any of the Belgian beers like Hackenberg or Martens? So far I'm liking those. If the 5.0 is anything like any of these beers I'll have to give it a try. |

speaking of beer price and sizes...
why does a 500ml bottle of hite D cost me 1500 in my local grandad shop and the same size can sitting next to it goes for 2450?
same as emart, family mart etc
do cans have some special quality that you pay extra for? |

They're worse for the environment, and they don't insulate as well as bottles. Maybe it's an effort to get people to buy bottles? |

Beer in cans doesn't go skunky as easily (no sunlight gets through)
and most importantly cans are far better for drinking and driving, you can drop one while driving and not worry about it breaking, you can toss them when the cops pull you over and not worry about getting a flat the next day while driving back to the bar, you can crush them and store a whole lot more empties in your trunk (sorry boot for those none North Americans).
Seriously, I have no idea, but I imagine the reason makes less sense than what I wrote...this is Korea after all where the beer is unforgivably bad and brewers cannot seem to figure out the basics of proper brewing. |

My guess is that bottles are much more easily reused than cans are.
Clean and re-cap, rather than recycled like a can.
It's the same in China. A 600 ml bottle of Tsingtao is 3 rmb (and you get .5 back when you return the bottle) while a 330 ml can is 3.5 rmb. |

I'm pretty sure this is the case., thus the old glass bottles that are pretreated badly scratched up. |

Just gave the black (pils) 5.0% a try. Not as hoppy as the Martens, more like the Hackenberg. Definitely worth it, as I had a similar apprehension. (They were all out of cheaper Belgian cans this morning at my Emart) | |
