Hokie,
Can I pass the test on Lorazepam?? |
Ballerina, just like me wanting super specific advice about exactly where to go, who to see, what to ask for, etc., I know you're hoping to get a definitive answer to your question; for someone to say, 'yes, absolutely, you'll be fine". Even if someone does say that (and I believe one or two people already have), I think it's debatable.
The only med I've ever taken, beyond what I'm currently on, is Lorazepam. I only had 12 tablets when I came back to Korea in 2010. I took them as needed, and I definitely refrained from taking any in the days leading up to my medical check.
To play it safe, you might consider doing the same thing. I wish I could be the one to tell you what you want to hear, but I don't know for sure whether you'll pass while taking it or not. Sorry. |

As I may have mentioned before, if your interested in a real long term solution to depression and anxiety, you should consider meditation. I've been meditating for over two years now and I wish I'd started when I was much younger. |
I hear you, falco, I really do. And you're certainly not the only person to say that. I don't want or intend to take medication long term, but I know it's necessary now.
I needed something to stabilize me, as my anxiety was quickly becoming so much worse - going from a day or two every couple weeks, to nearly every day. It was beginning to affect even the most ordinary aspects of my life.
The benefits of meditation and other cbt skills aren't lost on me. Just because I feel better now that I'm taking something doesn't mean I'm planning to disregard other methods. Long term, non-medical solutions are the way to go. There's no denying that. |

You're right, I know.. I'll just go off of them before I come over. It'll be a rocky road. Thanks all. |

How much clearer can this be put?
THEY...ARE...NOT...TRYING...TO...DETECT...PRESCRIPTION...MEDICINE. THEY...ARE...ONLY...SCREENING...FOR...ILLEGAL...DRUGS.
Hell, I still take Seroquel. Did it come up in the medical test?.....No. Nothing. Not a trace. |

Sooo if someone was taking adderall it wouldn't show up as a an amphetamine on a drug test?
And of course Seroquel wasn't an issue on your drug test, its an SSRI for crying out loud. I'm curious though, on the visa health check sheet they ask if you have any mental health conditions...did you admit you're taking an bi polar/schizo medication?

Clearer than before, apparently, when you said things like:
falco wrote: |
Passed it ok. I'm not sure but I believe they're only looking for cannabis etc. |
And
falco wrote: |
Is Lorazepam a xanax type anti-depressent? Even so, should be ok. As I said they're not looking for anti-depressents, just 'hard' drugs.....lol. |
"I'm not sure" and "should be ok" don't come across as clear, definitive answers. I think you're right, but even the link you posted earlier to a thread with a similar ongoing debate had a few mixed opinions, and while I haven't looked, I'm sure you could find countless other threads with people saying different things.
It might be different depending on where you go to get the test done, as far as what they're looking for and how particular they are. And there's still the question of things showing up as false positives

Ask your doctor how long it takes to leave your system. Chances are it's only a day or two, so it's not like you'd have to go off it for a week and risk feeling terrible. Maybe you could slowly taper off before and see how you feel? |

Apologies if my earlier post come across as abrupt. Was just trying to make the point that you guys appear to be getting stressed out over nothing....lol.

I dont suffer from bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia. I just take a low dose of Seroquel as a for depression. Hopefully in time, if my meditation continues successfully, I'll be able to come off it. No, of course I didnt admit it on the health check, otherwise I wouldnt be teaching in this country now as I think you well aware.

My point is that just because something is a "prescription" drug it doesn't mean that it won't test positive as something else. Hence the Adderall question.
I'm glad Seroquel is working for you though, honestly. It was an interesting drug to sell and easily the most fulfilling, heard lots of success stories from patients on it. |

A few more natural methods of managing anxiety are the following:
Taking Magnesium.
Taking Omega 3 & Vitamin E.
Taking Vitamin D3.
Taking Vitamin C.
Drinking or eating unsweetened dark Cacao. (E.g. Like hot chocolate.)
Drinking Lavender tea and Chamomill tea.
Doing yoga.
Doing Tai chi.
Getting massages.
Getting enough sleep.
Cutting back on sugar and caffeine.
Drinking a good amount of water.
Meditation/reflection/etc.
Breathing exercises.
Talk about what you are feeling.
Anything else? |

Wow! I'm surprised to see this post spring back to life. Thanks for more suggestions. I've been taking Rivotril since June, and it's working for me, but as I've said in the past, I don't like the idea of taking medications long term.
I need to learn more CBT skills and should really get in touch with the people at Adaptable Human Solutions, which I (shamefully) admit I haven't done yet. It would be great if they could give me advice about where to go/people to see in Suwon, as it would be more convenient for me; perhaps they have some connections.
I'll also have to try some of the other natural remedies/vitamins you suggested. As far as general life stuff is concerned, I'm on the right track already and was even when my anxiety was worsening; although, I could certainly stand to get massages more often.
As for the vitamins and supplements, I'll start by doing some research online. Thankfully, I'm heading home again over the Holidays this year. As you probably know, it's way cheaper to buy certain things in N.A. than it is here. As an added bonus, my aunt works at a pharmacy, and I can use her family discount, so I'll be able to stock up on some major essentials.
I was taking vitamin D3 but just recently ran out. When I finally went to see a psychiatrist, I had blood work done, and it came back that I was vitamin D deficient. I'd been taking 1000 IU/day all through the winter months but was told it should've been more like 5000 IU. I upped the dosage, which is why I ran out faster than expected. |
