I have seen a few unis advertising 'too-good-to-be-true' adverts advertising high pay, amazing students, and lots of vacation time.
While my university has its pros and cons, I would like to move on to better things.
Which unis are dodgy to work for? |

The technology ones seem to be high up there to reject if you are expecting good students. However, if you are a first timer, it might be a good start. Just don't expect much. Use it as a year to plan lessons as if the students cared and put it on your resume. Don't rock the boat with the department and use them as a recommendation for a better uni job with English lit majors (or at least ones that give a crap). |

Universities have different departments and conditions can vary. The conditions can be good or they can be abysmal. I worked at Hankuk University's foreign language training center (flttc) a couple years back. I was happy to get out of the place. It is definitely the place to avoid. There are certainly other frightful places out there too.
This can be a useful thread for warning teachers against awful jobs hiding behind the mask of a university. There are some good university jobs and some bloody awful ones.
Choose carefully. |

If you're looking to get 'your foot into the door' with decent pay/vacation/hours, seriously look into 2-year colleges, especially in the 'boonies'. They offer packages as good as the 'better' unis, but the only downside is that their students aren't of the highest caliber, if that is an issue for you. |

Yeungjin College in Daegu is a terrible place to work, especially in their FLI (Foreign Language Institute). Three men working there (2 Canadians and 1 New Zealander) treat the other teachers badly because of their seniority. |

It would be easier to ask...which are the best to work for.....the list would be very short....and all others....it's hit or miss..... |
