I've been doing some snooping around the past couple of hours and it seems that Delta's ratings have really improved in the past year. They actually came out ahead of United (no surprise), American, US Airways and Continental.
As to having little interaction with the flight attendants yes I agree but on a 13 and a half hour flight I'll admit it is nice to have a bit of eye candy to admire. |
I used to hate Delta and would avoid them at all costs. I've had to take them a few times in the past year, and I have to say I've had good experiences every time. It has definitley improved, at least domestically.
United is another story.... |

I am flying home all on Delta miles this year.
Delta sux compared to what Northwest was (Delta bought NW). But if you take the right flight, you can end up in a newer 777 from Incheon to the states, which is good. I like that I can now get home 4 hours faster with one less layover.
Delta customer service was awful because many northwest employees were angry about the merger. I actually got some vouchers because I told a Delta employee that I thought things were better when it was just Northwest. She was a former long-time NW employee, and agreed, seeming happy that I said it. |

Yes, I've checked my flight and it is on one of the newer 777's so I'm happy about that. |

The 777 comment is dead on! That plane makes a big difference as far as a confortable flight goes. Delta also has so many connections that you are pretty well covered in case of a late arrival or a missed connection. |

You may check their baggage allowances. They may only allow one checked bag instead of the two that Korean and Asiana and even United will allow. I booked a Delta flight that was serviced by Korean Air. They told me that Delta's policy is only one bag and charged me an extra $100 for my second bag. |
Korean Air is changing their checked baggage policy. I imagine it won't take long for Asiana to follow suit...

Yep it is an industry trend, only a matter of time before all or most airlines reduce baggage allowance to one free checked bag for economy class passengers. |

Glad to hear it, this time next week I'll be somewhere over the Pacific.
I just hope I didn't end up in a middle seat, I asked my school to book an aisle seat but they said they had already paid. Fingers crossed. |

Get your booking number, go on the Delta website and pick your own seat.
Unless you choose the economy class upgrade (premium economy I think) its free.
I did that last week for our flight to Korea. Picked seats on the website for all my family on all connecting flights. |

I have flown Delta Pusan-NRT, NRT-Detriot many times and they have never been (even five minutes) late. |

My flight to and from America on Delta was the most demeaning flying experience I ever had (hmmm, actually second most demeaning). The good think is that they have so many flights, if there is a typhoon in Tokyo or you might miss you connection in America, they can easily reroute you, and you only loose like two hours, where you could loose half a day on another carrier. And they can get you all the way to your final destination in America. |
I sincerely hope you're not an English teacher |

Flight was great. Food was good, the on-board entertainment system was the best I've ever seen. The flights were on time and we even arrived early on the second flight. |

I just did a short week-long trip back on Delta, and I will second/third/whatever the previous comments about the newer planes. If you get on one of those with the new in-flight entertainment systems it really helps pass the time more easily.
The service on both of my long haul flights was quite good, too, I had no complaints about the food or the flight attendants. Also, both long-haul flights were actually ~15-30 minutes early, which is always great. |

I've flown Delta since they merged with Northwest and have found that the service ranges from great to terrible. I've been bumped up to business class several times, but I've also had water spilled on me by a flight attendant and she acted like it was my fault.
I take Delta because a) I have a lot of miles with them and b) they have the best connections for me.
I'd gladly pay $200 more for a more comfortable ride, but most of them have poor connections, forcing me to overnight in a place that I'd rather not be. |

I love Delta! I would book a Delta or Korean air flight and sign up for skymiles. They will pay off in the end.
I pretty much always fly Delta (used to be Northwest). I generally prefer them to all Asian carriers. The service is better, I like be able to have small talk with stewardess or steward. You also can request meals online when you purchase your flight. Over the last 5 years my wife and I have had two transpacific flights, one to Mexico and two to Japan all for free/round-trip with our airline miles. The also have upgraded us to first class a good 30% of the time on our regular flights.
I love getting Skymiles! We have probably spent about 16,000usd on airfare and gotten about 6,000usd back in reward flights/upgrades. |
Thanks for posting. I'm glad to hear that someone has had a positive experience flying with Delta. I have some hope then. |
I fly Delta almost exclusively, mostly because I've never had a bad experience with the carrier.
Sure, I've had some incidents - like when I checked a rack of beer from Germany to the US. It fell off the conveyor while the plane was loading and several of the bottles broke. However, a flight attendant and the first officer came to my seat, apologized profusely, and gave me a twelve-pack of comparable stuff from ship's stores. I would have been satisfied with the apology. The point is that one must maintain a positive attitude when traveling anywhere by any means. Hassles are bound to crop up, and how you deal with them says a lot about you.
That said, my very best air travel experience was years ago on Cathay Pacific. I don't even know whether they're still in operation, but that was awesome. |
