Has anyone done it? Want to leave from Canada to China to Korea to Japan and then back to Canada.....Ideally spend a week in each country.

What's the best way to do that? By air I am assuming. Or is that too expensive?

How did you arrange the flights?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Canada to China kind of needs a plane. Hard to swim that far in spite of the costs of the flight.

China to S.Korea kind of needs a plane (North Korea is closed to overland traffic) and ferries take a minimum of a day (Tanjin to Incheon) and if you are farther away it will take days.

Busan to Japan by ferry is OK. If you in the north (Seoul) then flying is about the only realistic option.

If you are doing a round trip thing, book it from Canada. A decent travel agent should be able to do it for not much more than hunting around the major airlines yourself.

If you are energetic you can peck around for the Asian discount carriers to save a few dollars but don't depend on on-time connections.

You will need your visa for China taken care of before you fly and for the rest of your itinerary you will need to show proof of onward passage for visa free travel or you may get bounced (at your expense) by the counter staff at some airport.

Thanks ttompatz.

I phoned an agent in Canada and the price is reasonable (I was surprised).

It is also possible to book flights on Expedia using the "multiple destination" option.
