Hi all,
I am certain this has been discussed before, but I cannot for the life of me get the search function to come up with anything other than a blank screen.

I am very interested in teaching English abroad, and am really considering Korea. However, one of my more important things to consider is my mother. She's getting older, and I would like to find a place where she could legally reside near me.

Korea offers a F-1 "family" visa...my question is, if I am teaching English in Korea, can I sponsor her for said visa, and will it allow her to reside in Korea?

Any help/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Smile

F3 - dependent family.

and to answer your questions :
yes, you can sponsor her (after you get your ARC) and
yes, she can reside in Korea with you (she cannot live independently).

Would a family member on an F3 visa be allowed to work in Korea?

No.

To work they would need to qualify for a work visa on their own merits (qualifications based on visa class and employment).

Sure, even someone on a tourist visa can sponsor his buddies...

Many tourists do not need a visa (country dependent).

If they do need a tourist visa then you can assist the application (letter of invitation) but you cannot sponsor them (you can't bring a G/F from the Philippines).

There is no "friends" visa. If they are entering as a tourist and, depending on their nationality, they can have stays from as short as 30 days to as much as 6 months (Canadians).

IF they hold an actual tourist visa (C3) then 90 days.
