A few years back at my university, the Korean profs thought that one of the foreign teachers had procured a fake degree. They had no idea what to do, so I said, "Call the registrar at his "university"." They had me make the call, and it turned out the guy's degree was indeed fake. To save face, he was eased out.
What I'm wondering is, how does the apostille change this situation in any way? Besides making the process very annoying for teachers, the guy I mentioned above could send his fake degree off for apostille-ing, and what, would the secretary of state or whoever call the uni registrar and confirm the authenticity? No. I can understand that immi or unis would not want to make such calls, but having a certified transcript sent directly to the department seems a much better idea. Am I missing something? |

Well, I'm in Canada. I'm applying to go back right now. I had to take my official degree and make a photocopy of it, and then go to a Notary Public (lawyer) who thoroughly examined my degree and the photocopy to verify their authenticity.
I sent this notarized photocopy to the Korean Consulate in Canada, which they apostilled and was returned to me. Then I sent that to my future school in Korea so they could file for my visa issuance number.
NOW I am in the process of getting my work visa. In this step of the process, I have to send 2 sealed transcripts from my university to the Korean Consulate in Canada. This helps verify that my educational information/history is indeed correct.
I'm not sure how long ago that story was, or what country he came from, but now (at least) you have to get sealed transcripts with a university seal so I think those would be hard to forge. |
