Here's my situation. Tompatz...help Smile

My current contract is finished on August 30th (a uni job) and I want to switch to another uni starting September 1st. They are in different provinces. How does it work with timing? Can I go beginning of September and do it, or can I do it at the end of August, or do I have to do it exactly on August 30th. Would I need a letter of release from my current place?

Assuming you are on an E2, a simple transfer of employment within 7 days of the end of your contract (provided your ARC is valid through the transfer date).

You need:
passport
ARC
new contract
new employer business registration (copy)
new employer guarantee (sponsorship form)
application
fees (60k for the transfer, 30k for the extension of your stay and 10k for a new ARC (changing immigration offices)).

Paperwork and processing done while you wait. New ARC will arrive in a few weeks. They will take your old ARC and give you a pickup/delivery notice.

LOR is not needed if you are doing it in the last week of your contract.
