I'm going to a Busan summer camp that ends in mid-August, and then going to teach in China. The problem is, I will have two weeks between the two and I don't want to just hang out in a hotel before leaving Korea. Does anyone have any ideas of things to do for this time period? I'd like to see everything important in Korea, then maybe hit up another Asian country for a little vacation. Money is a little bit of a factor, but I don't mind spending a little.

Get a cheap ticket to the Philippines and go sit on the beach.

Do NOT go to Luzon (the north 1/2 of the country) since it is typhoon season (unless you are a gambling man). Head for the central part of the country (the Visayas region).

Book your flight from there to China.

That won't take long. Temple X/Palace Y which all look the same, check. Big craggy mountain with Koreans in overpriced hiking gear swarming like ants everywhere, check. Bloated, overpriced mall/department store, check. All done!

How about Vladivostok? Catch a ferry over there from Sokcho. That's what I'm planning after my contract. Supposed to be quite a pretty city, especially in summer. Great geography, big harbor, lovely old architecture, half-decent food for once. Give yourself a taste of Europe as a break from Asia.

The Philippines might be nice. I can honestly say I hadn't even considered Vladivostok. Has anyone done the transcontinental train? Maybe I could see some of the soviet sites on my way to China.

There are some great scuba diving locations in South Korea. This may be too expensive.

Cheaper options are to travel in the countryside and notice ancestor worship, visit the National Museum of Korea and other cultural landmarks (these are cheaper).

Have fun!
