What happens if I apply now to EPIK for the September semester |
if you apply now, there is a decent chance to get into Seoul/Busan |

if you apply now, you will get into a large metropolitan area, but not Seoul/Busan |

So I have had my eye on teaching english in Korea for the longest time, and EPIK seems to be the best option by far. Ideally I would like to go to korea in august/september, but I have not gotten the ball rolling on the application. Here are my questions.
1.If I decide to start applying RIGHT NOW could I get into the August/September round?
2.If it is not too late to apply for August/September, will the only positions left be in rural villages and second-rate cities?
My personal preference is Seoul and Busan BTW... if not those two, then any other very large city with a decent concentration of foreigners |

An announcement on their website states the deadline for applications is June 1st. However, they go on to say that "any applications received after June 1st will be processed and the application will either be scheduled for an interview for the Fall 2012 term or given information in regards to the Spring 2013 term." So it's still kind of ambiguous. They may be trying to accrue back-ups to cover for applicants who were accepted but don't get their materials together in time. You can find the announcement here: http://www.epik.go.kr/
If you do apply, Seoul would probably be a long shot. SMOE is already very pick about applicants and positions there go fast. Busan usually has the most positions of any S. Korean city to fill (last term it was around 160), so there may be a chance there. However, EPIK goes by a "first come first serve" system, and positions in larger cities almost always go the quickest. Additionally, this time around you cannot list your city preference, only whether you prefer an urban or rural area.
GEPIK, which has schools in the districts around Seoul, is still taking applications, I believe. Korvia would be worth looking into for GEPIK positions. |

Can you apply = yes.
Will you be accepted = maybe, depends on whether or not they met their quota.
Are there other options for a PS position = yes, GEPIK.
IF you don't have your documents in hand NOW you have NO CHANCE of making it to Korea for Sept (90 days away). It will take that long to get yourself organized and get a full set of documents.

you do understand that SMOE is where one applies if one wants to teach ps in Seoul, right? GEPIK is for Gyeonngi-do (just outside of Seoul) and EPIK is for everywhere else in Korea. |
